My friend is in hospital now. He fell from his motorcycle one day ago, and it seems that he has some friction burns. I would like to help him if I can when he goes out today. I would just want to know a little more about these types of burns, friction burns. Why are they different from standard burns? Do they require some special treatment?

Actually, they are a mixture of both heat burns and scrapes. These scrapes occur in a moment of fall when he touched the surface. Remember when you were little and fell on your knees. Those kinds of wounds are scrapes. Combined with heat and in a great speed they can get to be very complicated. However, the important thing is that your friend is alive and not badly injured. Friction burns will heal, so do not worry.

Hi there,
If you ask me I think that friction burns are one of the most painful burns. Now I know that there are worse burns but once I had experienced a friction burn and I really wouldn’t like to whish anybody to have this experience. I had problems to heal the wound so that there will be no scar left. I have managed to do so with anti inflammatory creams that you can get over the counter. I used some pain killers as well so suggest this to him and see how his wounds will behave. I hope that this helped in any way and that he will heal soon.

All the best,
Danella
