Hello, folks. I have a thyroid lump for a certain period of time. My endocrinologist would like to send me to biopsy. I must admit that I am little afraid. Why does he want to do that? Does anyone know? I would appreciate if anyone could reply me. Thank you in advance for all your answers.

Hello. It is not a bad idea. You don’t need to be afraid. Fine needle aspiration biopsy is a simple, but very powerful procedure. A doctor uses a syringe to aspirate a small part of tissue of your thyroid lump. He sends that to pathology. Over there, your tissue sample is being examined by pathologist. He must decide whether the lump is benign or malignant. Depending on results, treatment will follow. I hope I’ve helped. Bye!
