I am 19 years old with no prior problems in this area, but for the past 4months i've had a sharp pain when i pass a stool, which has recently gotten a lot worse, and there is always a small amount of blood on the paper afterwards. The pain started when i was on holiday not getting much fibre but since i have not been at all constipated. I was diagnosed with haemorrhoids by my gp however on examination she could not feel much. Surely if the pain was this bad and it was haemorrhoids they should be prolapsing slightly at times, but i have never felt that and i have never had any mucus leaking. I've been refered to an outpatient clinic for further treatment as suppositries have not been successful - but could this be because it's a fissure? I'd appreciate people's thoughts, thanks.

You could be having internal hemorrhoids and to know for sure what it is, you would actually have to have a physical exam.
