Hi. I was diagnosed with genital herpes and prescribed with Valtrex. I don`t think it is working. However, sometimes I miss a dose. Has Valtrex worked for you? Am I contagious during the treatment?

Hi. It is important to take Valtrex after the first appearance of genital herpes symptoms. You must take Valtrex regularly and your symptoms will improve before the infection is completely treated. Take each dose of Valtrex with water (or food - I prefer food because it decreases my stomach upset). Herpes is always contagious, even during the treatment. To get most benefit, take Valtrex regularly. If you miss a dose of Valtrex, take it as soon as you remember. Never take a double dose.
