Hello! I have been dating a very nice woman for a month. We really have wonderful time together but we still didn't have sex. Yesterday she told me that she has genital herpes and that she had to tell me before we decided to have sex. I was glad because she told me but I am also afraid. She said that she is taking Valtrex (Valacyclovir) but I am not sure if this medicine will prevent genital herpes from being transmitted.

Hi! It is very good that your girlfriend shared this information with you. It is important for your health and for your relationship too. Valatrex (Valacyclovir) is usually used for treatment and suppression of genital herpes and it is proved that the risk of transmission is reduced. Reduced doesn't mean prevented, that means that the risk is always present. I would always recommend safe sex practice and you should always be careful.
