hi, u mentioned a side effect from your scoliosis surgery was your being tired. my boyfriend had scoliosis surgery a few years back (he actually had 7 surgeries) and he sleeps all the time. could this be because of the surgery? he's only nineteen but he's got it bad. sometimes it worries me sometimes it frustrates me..but could his sleeping problem be from his scoliosis surgery?

I am a 34 yr old female. I had surgery over 20 years ago. 2 Harrington rods with 12 screws for an s curve. I was depressed for awhile after the surgery. I haven't had any major complications from the surgery, but if I don't stay fit, I feel the effects! I have had 2 kids (natural) with no complications. The doctor told me not to participate in contact sports or anything that could break the rods or my back. I didn't really listen then and I still don't now. I am active in downhill skiing, played several sports in school and am currently a corrections officer. I went through rigorous physical fitness testing and combat fighting in the police academy. My 14 yr old daughter was just diagnosed with a left thoracic curve of 57* and will require surgery. I am depressed all over again that she has to go through this as well.

I had no problems with my 3 pregnancies and had them all naturally. I did not want anything else going in my back already have rods, screws and wires. You will be ok with having children. I suffer long term effects like disk degeneration and sciatica problems.

In my 30's I had no problems with my surgery. Now that I am 45 I am going down hill fast in pain all the time. I am limited on physical activity because if I do to much I'm bed bound the next day. Wish you do not get like me and good luck to your daughter.

I am a 21 year old male with von recklinghausen disease ( a few nerve tumors and the scoliosis) are some of my effects i wore a brace but it had no effect it did give me a rib hump in 02 i went in for sugery rods were placed from T1-t10 4 vertebrate below t1 were fused my scoliosis was a success, But.... going back in 2012 i had found out that above and below were rods were placed had started to curve ( proximal junctional kyphosis) they wont do sugery now because it would severely impact my mobility and i was told higher risk of paralyzed then itnwas in 02 muscle relaxers do not help even when with opiates and i was informed i could get shots in back but was not guaranteed if and how long they would work and also if someone hits my back it hurts bad and makes me collapse

I never was sent to physical therapy either. I had my surgery the day before thanksgiving, I'm 16. My back and neck are always sore. After bending over its really hard to stand up straight, I used to be able to touch my toes but I can barely touch my knees

I had surgery in 1975 and had a 21 inch Harrington rod in my spine. In those days the ros was not flexible. As an adult. I developed severe pain in my left hip and sciatica. I also have arthritis in my hip and I have degenerative disc disease.  I often have severe spasms in my shoulder blade.  I cannot lift my foot much higher then my ankle so getting dressed is compromising.  I have the rib hump which is ugly. I was told two vertebraes in my lower back fused to my pelvis.  My hips are very stiff. My lower back hurts real bad so I can only walk about a fourth of a block. I constantly have to rest my back when I try to clean for my mom . By the time I walk from the kitchen to the bedroom at the back of her ranch style house I have to sit down and rest my back because it hurts so bad. I can no longer lay on my left side because of the severe hip pain. I can no longer kneel because of the pain in my knees as well and there is the tired feeling in my back.

jlogbel...I am sorry to hear about your pain. I am 51 and am considering spinal fusion for my curve. Yes, pain is a constant companion, but I am considering surgery because I don't want to continue to increase my intake of pain medication. Is this a stupid reason to want to have surgery? Mine would be for a similar set of vertebra - probably L1-L5. Not sure. Going to have an MRI done in 2 weeks to check. How old are you?
