Doctors tell me they don't take rods out. So this is news to me. Very interesting I sure as hell wish mine were out

overheard Dr dictating just before he came into see me - evidently someone else is going through same thing and they are working on him. Had an aunt that had rods in lower back and after a year or so the Dr offered to take hers out, but hers were not a problem. I just hope that it works - brain is mush and body not willing anymore and not willing to go through some of the things that friends have went through like ablation, neuro stimulator, meds that make BP go through roof -so goofy that I can't walk or suicidal, no more "pain management"! Just soooo tired - sleeping again about 1-2 hours maybe. A week and a half to the big day then the fun of recovery again!

I had a c4-3 fusion in 2010 and about 3 months later my headaches came back every so ofthen but in the last month or so my pain has gotten worse, it starts in the back of my neck and shoulders and runs up the back of my head and into my eye and temples. Haven't told my doctor as I had to get a new one. Iv taken 600mg ibuprofen b4 I go to bed sometimes it helps sometimes it don't. I haven't been able to sleep well in the past 4 days bcuz when I put my head on a pillow it hurts worse if I have my head up to long same results my advice to u is if u can't stand the pain then go through with it as I did. Good luck.

The Rods came out 4 days ago and I do not feel any worse but of course I am taking a lot of meds so time will tell. Dr said one of the screws was not as tight as the others - wonder if that one was causing problems or if the other 7 were??? I am hoping that some of the symptoms will at least lighten if not go away but no matter what after the follow ups I will not go back to same surgeon so that means travel of 5-8 hours one way for any other treatments which will be hard on me and my husband. Please try anything before surgery! I know that some have good outcomes but there are 3 in the town of 500 that I live in that the outcomes on the neck have not been that good.

Tried both and didn't work. Am still taking pain meds though trying to reduce the amount I take daily now and I will stop them soon because I refuse to be on them long term, As soon as Dr lets me will start PT exercises, massage and Tens again to reduce muscle spasms, but that is in future, just trying to get through til healed. But I think will not let any more PRACTICE be on me if this does nothing!

I had c5, and c6 fused and cadaver discs replacement because of severe headaches. I'm still experiencing them daily and am following docs orders to the letter. According to him it's normal due the build up of histamine from surgery and pain meds. These headaches have completely taken me out of life and the only thing I've found that helps is laying down flat. I am sympathetic to all of you. This is no way to live and there has to be an answer. I too have tired pt, epidural, branch medial blocks, nerve eblasions, all sorts of meds, and now surgery. I don't know about the histamine theory, go back in a month and was told if I don't improve he will prescribe a histamine blocker. Good luck to all of you. Don't let this beat you.

For those of you waking with head pain, have you tried diamox? For those of you who feel fine upon waking but feel worse as the day goes on, have you tried coffee? Or does caffeine help? I truly believe there's a vascular component to head pain after surgeries. And perhaps undiagnosed csf leaks or other issues related to csf pressure.

Besides meds I have used heat. If you have heating pad of some kind, also TENS unit if you are healed enough, hot tub, massage. If you are not taking a pain med with acetaminophen, you might be able to take it or Excedrin (it has aspirin, acetaminophen, and caffine) After 4 separate events these help some, I have found though that I am going to have to live with moderate to severe pain/headaches the rest of my life I think. The last "procedure" that took out the rods released 1 muscle that was in spasm for over 2 years but 9 weeks post procedure I still have neck and shoulder pain, headaches, dizziness of unknown origin, ringing to ears of unknown origin, and intermittent numbness/tingling to hands. Most increase throughout the day.
