You'll probably find this pounding (pulse) is not you feeling your heatbeat in your head.
It's your awakening and you'll find that no 'regular doctor' can make it go away, they may however prescribe you anti-depressants or something similar.
It may at first seem similar to a bad headach or throbbing finger after being hit or trapped, or the throbbing after stubbing your toe.
I reckon this pulse you have is right in the middle of your head and sounds like a repetative bass beat.
Sound familiar? If so, then you need to open your mind and research what a 'pineal gland' is, then you need to listen to some 'binaural beats' and 'solfeggio tones'. With practice you'll be in full control of your pineal gland and will be able to turn on or off this 'pulse'.

I have all the same symptoms. I feel like I'm going to die when my heart skips .. I have (p.a.t.) that is where my heart rates spikes up to 200 beats per minute Im on inderol for that which does control it some what but nothing helps the skipping . I too have dizziness and the heart beat in my head which totally drives me craazy !!! A friend suggested that I get a doppler on my neck done to check for blockages. I have done some reserch on line and there are several people who said they had blockages which caused the same symptoms we are experiencing . I hope I can get my doctor to do it . I think she thinks I'm a hypochondriac or she just doesn't care. This is so scary and at the same time it is so annoying. It is hard to concentrate or even sleep when all this is going on,Also I have swelling in my legs and feet which she has seen and does nothing about...

As a psychologist in training, I wonder if it is migraine. The only doctors I see referred to here are MDs. She might try an ND to see if something natural is available. PSYCHOLOGISTS can do a lot also through psychotherspy, relaxation techniques, biofeedback, etc. There are some good relaxation tapes for migraines sufferers on YouTube. Medicine is NOT the only answer msybe.

The electric shock sensation is called Lhermitte's Sign. It is most often associated with multiple sclerosis (MS). The issues you describe are similar to what I experienced prior to receiving an MS diagnosis.

Request MRI of head, neck and back AND a lumbar puncture to check for specific proteins. I'm sorry I cannot recall which ones.

These diagnostic tools with rule out or confirm MS. If it is MS, then you know WHAT is causing those problems and can begin treatment.

I had this for years! Lost some vision in one of my eyes. After two and a half years the neurologist finally gave me an MRI found I'd had several strokes because of servere intercrainial carotid stenosis.

Well this makes sense to me since I too am severely anemic. I also have chronic recurring blood clots in the legs and as such, am on blood thinners. NONE of them seem to work. Have been hospitalized 4 times in 6 months for clots and each time the anemia is an issue. I also wake up in a panic, hearing a loud knock on my bedroom door, bur no one is there. Am going to be checked out, as the head thumping is scaring me at this point.

Oh my gosh! I am definitely going to seek treatment after reading this post. The painless throbbing in my gead, at the base of my neck, mostly on left side, is frightening enough, but combined with the chronic blood clots, sounds like it could be deadly. I recently slipped in the shower and broke my arm as well so the idea of going back to the hospital after about 4 times since April (maybe more, I lost count) makes me really sad.
