Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your husband and your situation. Getting off can be hard but it is doable. Depending on his daily dosage, he should expect diarrhea, chills, sweats and insomnia if he chooses to go cold turkey. Immodium ad, Nyquil and benedryl help a ton with the wds. This is my preferred for kicking opiates, but everybodies different.
Depending on what's triggering his use, tapering might better suit him. Personally, tapering mg per dose wasnt effective. I found that taking my set dose at longer and longer intervals worked. At the end was taking 1 dose every other day. Withdrawals and unpleasentness were very mild.
I don't recommend or endorse anyone trying anything new, but the herb Kratom helped me. There was a point where i wasnt ready to walk without a crutch but didn't like how things were going with vicodin and oxy. I came across this legal herb that contains natural Opioids. Kratom, to me, seemed much less abusable and somehow more satisfying/ theraputic than prerscription meds. Hope I've helped! If your husband have any questions feel free shoot me a message.
