If they work, why do you still suffer from repeated heart palpitations? You had me 100% on board until "now, other problems..."
Dehydration, anemia, stimulants (aka: sugar/caffeine), and fever are the most likely culprits with young children and resting tachycardia. All of them are also remedied when the root cause is addressed. For a child who is hydrated, not low on iron, not hopped up on soda/candy, and not acutely ill and still suffers from persistent tachycardia, they might have a heart condition which may or may not need further medical treatment (depending on severity, frequency, and underlying cause). A child who is dehydrated or infectiously ill may require medical attention; "when it doubt let a doctor check them out". I would probably try your first short list of recommendations as an initial measure, but probably go to a cardiologist before pulling out tooth fillings. Just saying.
