I am currently trying to survive the withdrawals from heroin. I made it 65 hours, hung out with an old friend who had the same dependency issue, and we ended up doing some together yesterday. I know I shouldn't' have relapsed and I am regretting it more than anything, it has now been another 20 hours since i last used and I'm still feeling under the weather but not as bad as my third day off the substance. What I'm asking is.. did using that one time after staying off for 3 days, is that going to restart my withdrawal symptoms? am I back to square one? Is this basically just hour 20 now, did those 3 days not count?

It may depend on how much you dosed but yes, basically you have reset the clock on your withdrawal. This is why it is very important that you do not take any heroin from this point forward if you want to avoid further withdrawal symptoms because each time you do it, you will have to quit it. Have you been speaking to your rehab counselor or do you have some friends who don't do heroin? They would be good talking to. Keep us posted on how you are doing...

I don't have much experience with this so can you explain to me why using within the first two weeks leads to a nasty kickback? I'd like to know just because almost everyone I've known who goes through this has not had a relapse so I don't know what it means. Can you explain?
