Can you please tell me how common is Trichomoniasis and how it is treated. One of my friends just has been diagnosed with Trichomoniasis. How can I prevent this? Are condoms enough protection?

Well, prevention would be mutual monogamy, including correct and consistent use of condoms. Trichomoniasis is a common, persistent, parasitic disease of the genitourinary tract and it is frequently without symptoms. However, in females, inflammation of the vagina occurs along with small, "strawberry" spots and large quantities of thin, foamy, greenish-yellow vaginal discharge with foul odor. It can cause obstetric complications and can facilitate HIV infection as previously noted and in males, the parasite invades the prostate, urethra and seminal vesicles. It is treated with an antiprotozoal agent.
