I have read the other comments in the Trimbia file. Most have raised the querstion on where do they get our address. I received one in Brisbane, Austrlaia on 11th April 2006. I am a holder of a priority club card which is for several hotel groups including intercontinental and crown plaza. Recently I had to notify a change of address to their 'head office" in Singapore.

Is this a coincidence or could th eother recoevers of mail also be a priority club member?

For Christ's sake everbody read this and stop being so bloody naive. !

There are thousands of professional companies around the world that sell lists of names to anyone who wants to buy such information.

Databases are compiled and sold according to need. Information is often collected through market research, and also directly from companies that have your details already - ie you said you had a Priority Club card (this company probably on-sold their database of customers).

It may not even relate to a previous purchase history. Your name can easily end up on any list, anywhere, or they may just be targeting the general public BLINDLY, knowing that they will get enough hits to generate PROFIT. It's the same as selling anything really.

This is where the TELEPHONE BOOK comes into it. They even get the phone book on CD now, so they don't even have to enter the raw data. Then they just bulk mail the c**p knowing that enough desperate people will react and fork out their money.

Every time to sign on for something, even on the internet, take a survey, even on the phone, you are ending up on a list somewhere. They may ask you if you weight loss is of concern to you. Your "yes" response will mean you go on a list of people to target for products or services in that category. This is sold to anyone wanting such lists.

Information is huge business, because it determines how companies can generate not only more profit by knowing who to target from the start, but also saves them a lot of money in advertising, and saves them the trouble of conducting their own extensive market research.
