I'm sorry but I really don't think it's the Paxil that make people gain weight. It's the type of food we eat and the amount of activity . I have been on Paxil for 15 years. Was very overweight and thought it was the Paxil for years ....then I started eating healthy and walking 30 minutes a day , most days, and lost 80 pounds in about 6 months. So I don't think it's the Paxil, any longer. It's bad good. Quit eating at restaurants and fast food and eat fruits and veggies and fish and chicken and no eating in the evening and you will loose weight.

I just found this site in 2015. My doctor put me on Paxil 10 mg when I retired six years ago for anxiety reasons. I never noticed anything except that I lost 30 pounds. My doctor says that CAN happen to some people. I see it is not normal. I asked my doctor if I can have a higher dose thinking it could help me lose even more weight. My weight stabilized after that. Now I realized I have been too tired and lazy and went off of it. I did not realize I was supposed to have side effects. I did not notice anything except a huge appetite. I'm now clear headed, energetic and don't need a nap each day. This is great. Don't give advice about Paxil always making people GAIN weight when it is not true.

brain zaps, I had to get off Paxil because it was creating brain zaps as you say.
I explained it to a doctor " I could hear this buzzing sound like it was building up and than zap, it feels like it bolted to the other side of my head " I just tell people Paxil caused lightening bolts in my head.
Been on Bupropion ever since - love it !

I feel the same. I was 116 pounds not even a year ago. I took paxil for a month. Every since I got off of it I keep gaining weight. I have gone from 116 to 145. Anybody who has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

That's definitely me I diet and My weight loss is minimal on paxil. I've been on it now since I was 35 and am now 50. I have tried to come of it several times by slowly weaning myself off. Was off it for 3 months once and was dieting and swimming was the only time I lost a lot of weight but started feeling depressed and panicky so had to go back on it. I think it's one of the hardest prescribed drugs to come off. Wished I never gone on it.

Even the doctors are full of c**p, mine told me only 3% of people taking paxil gain weight, bull! I was on 10mg for 9 months, gained thirty lbs, elevated bp, elevated cholesterol and thyroid stopped functioning. My doctor wanted me to take pb, cholesteral and synthroid meds. I went off the paxil and lost 9 lbs the first three weeks. BP is in normal range again, I have to have blood work in 2 months. Hate doctors.

I do agree with a lot of what you say about these sik meds. Some don't have any other choice, or they're fed to believe, but to take them. People trust these docs who rx them meds. I recently found myself on Paxil for the first t u me, and anti dep/ssri's again after a year or better of abstinence. Lame attempts at drinking g and self medicating myself led to even deeper problems. If done properly w diet and exercise, happiness can come in form other than pill. I'm happy to see im not the only one saying so. Sure don't look to good in a custody battle, taking meds. It's the FDA and Govt control that has us in a pinch.

Yes it can cause weight gain...but you just watch what you eat and you can lose it also...20 yrs on it. A lot of people while whine and blame solely the paxil...it just isnt true...also they will say every body is different and it is impossible to lose weight...also not true.

Paxil did help me with my anxiety, however, I gained 42.6 lbs while on paxil a little over a year. I just decided my anxiety relief wasn't worth the soar heels/feet, back & knee pain that I was having because of the weight gain. I am a small female (5'2) who weighed only 115 when I started the paxil. My end weight before going off of it was 157.6. I am withdrawing now. Thankfully, for me, this so far has not been a nightmare. I can tell you that I am on day 5 without the medicine and I have already lost 1.3 lbs. It may not be much, but if I continue to drop weight then NO ONE will convince me all the weight I gained WASN'T from the Paxil. That's what my Dr. tried to tell me after putting me on a special diet and saying I must not be exercising enough. Some times the benefits of the drug just don't outweigh the consequences of the health on the rest of your body.
