Actually new research from an Israli medical team in 2010 proved that 25% of paxil users gain weight. Some docotrs are still relying on old research, although how they have time to keep abreast of all new drug developments is beyond me. I am withdrawing from paxil and it is a very difficult drug to get off. It definately helped my depression, but i would not recommed how i have been feeling for the pst month to my worst enemy. Make sure you really need it .

I have been an athlete all my life and definitely noticed the weight gain from this drug around age 26. What's interesting is I gained a lot of muscle from my workouts, but also a lot of fat. I pay considerable attention to my fat ratio. It jumped from 14% body fat and 180lbs (I'm 5'9") to 216lbs and 27% body fat. Now given at this time I was trying to bulk up, but......Now I'm 37 and having gone on and off this drug over the past ten years it has become very obvious that it does cause fat gain. Here is my diet routine that proved it. Every year I gain in winter and lean out in summer by dieting along with a modified workout routine. With this diet I typically drop anywhere from 5 to 7% body fat. Ranging lean around 13-14% to heavy 21-24%. Once I got back onto the Paxil. This same diet that I had been doing for years (off paxil) only show a net fat loss of 1-2%. HUGE DIFFERENCE. These are very real and measurable results that the drug does have a negative impact on metabolism.

I have been on paxil for 15 years and I gained 60 lbs. I reduced the paxil from 60 mg to 5 mg and lost 45 lbs in a 3 month period. I went back on paxil because of inability to manage the withdrawl symptoms and gained the weight back in a year. I have been off of paxil cold turkey for two weeks and have already lost 10 lbs. I have found that mega doses of omega 3.... 6000 mg a day, combined with large doses of a b vitamin suppliment and hawthorne 565 mgs a day has made a huge difference with managing the withdrawl symptoms and the weight is melting off. But I also avoid sugar, sugar substitutes, soda, and alcohol. I eat alot of fruit and vegetables too.

I have been on Paxil for over a year now. My doctor suggested this pill for my OCD and anxiety attacks. I take two 20mg pills a day. I will admit the pill helped my anxiety attacks. I felt great. I was calm and happy. I started noticing that I was gaining weight gradually. It's been over a year and I now have gained 25 pounds. I had no idea why I was gaining weight. My diet didn't change. I started surfing the web about Paxil and was shocked to see that I wasn't the only one. I'm slowly going to try to get off this drug. I started taking one 20mg pill for a week and then I will cut back to 10mg then 5mg. I will post my results after I'm totally off Paxil. Hoping that I can lose the 25 pounds.

Paxil is most definitely a cause of enormous weight gain. I've never weighed more than 105 my entire life, it's no coincidence that almost 2 years in to taking Paxil, my weight ballooned to 160!! I look ridiculous. My stomach is huuuge. Tapered off extremely slow, was down to taking a crumb of Paxil at night-then nothing. I started to experience terrible tension-like headaches-almost constantly. I also lost 4 lbs in that 2 weeks. I couldn't take the headaches anymore, so I started taking the little crumb again-the headache was gone within an hour. This medicine is evil.

Well I am one of the 15 percent that lost weight on Paxil.  It was like a miracle drug I have dealt with depression for years so finally I sought out help from my doctor.  I was placed on 10mg and within a week I felt as though my whole world had opened up.  I went from weighing 192 to 170 within 6 weeks.  I had no appetite while taking Paxil.  I had never felt better.  So I know the majority of people do gain weight but as long as I was on Paxil the weight stayed off so everyone is different. I hope this helps someone out there.

I've been on 40mg for 3 weeks now and I'm not hungry but I try to eat something and healthy. I have noticed that I have lost some weight. The only downfall I have is the drymouth and my legs bounce when I'm sitting. I'm tired more. But I feel so much better! My anxiety is gone and I feel mellow and happy now. I've taken Prozac and amitriptilin and they didn't work like Paxil does for me. Paxil and or any medications aren't always for everyone because every person is different! Good Luck!

I was on paxil a while ago. I actually thought I was dying until I got off of this drug. It messed me up so bad. I gained weight, every joint in my body hurt. My cousin was also on it, gained weight and she had severe tremors. I am now free of any meds and still can not lose the weight I gained while on paxil. I think it did damage to the the point it can never be reversed.

I have been on Paxil a few times over the years for anxiety and panic attacks. When I am on it, I do not want to eat as much, I lose a lot of weight and almost forget about food. I know people report the opposite, but I think it varies in each case. I eat compusively sometimes, so I think Paxil assists me to eat normally, when I'm actually truly hungry and not because I should be. Remember, paxil helps with whatever your prexisiting issue was, so keep that in mind. I know some of the side effects are brutal, but for anxiety, paxil is a miracle drug and really works.
