that's encouraging that this is starting to work. are you still on the paxil ? did you wean off or cut dose or was the only change the meds and exercise ?

I hope people still read this. I am German so don't be surpised about the grammar mistakes.
I started taking paxil in April 2010 and quit taking it in September 2010. I have always been pretty fit. I do not eat carbs and I exercise almost every day.
In May 2010 I suddenly noticed that I gained weight. I am 5'3 and always used to weigh 110 - 115 lbs. I thought this is due to some heavy dinners, so I started to cut out all the carbs and worked out for 2 hours straight. I was very surprised when my weight kept going up. My doctor told me that it is common knowledge that you gain form paxil. (Thank you...I did not know that.)
Anyways, I quit taking the meds in September 2010, but my weight kept increasing. The worst part was that no doctor believed me. In Germany people don't get antidepressants that easily and therefore many doctors do not know about the side affects. With only eating pure protein, no carbs and working out every day I gained 15 lbs. I know that is not as bad as other people's weight gain, but you have to consider the way I live.
In 2011 I did a little test. I would only drink water and green tea for 5 days to see what would happen. Well, I gained half a pound - and no, it was not water or muscles. My Bodyfat was messured every month, because doctors could not believe what had happend to me.
In January 2011 I decided to do something drastic. I went to a famous Doctor in Germany. He is a best seller author for health books. He usually works with celebrities...You can imagine, that it wasn't cheap. However, he was the first who knew what was going on with me.
The difference between him and other doctors is, that he checks 8 essential Amino Acids in your blood. He told me that if only one is "missing" you cannot loose weight. Amino Acids are built out of protein. Drinking protein shakes everyday I was very surprised that 6!!! of my Amino Acids were missing. Exspecially Tryptophan! Without Tryptophan you will have depressions. Almost no doctors know that.
He told me that the only way to get my body to work again is to fill up the vitamins that I am missing (in my case Zink, Vitamin D, Kalium, Magnesium, Selen, Omega3 (sorry, I really do not know the English translations)) and to fill up my Amino Acids. And this was how to:
He developed a 2 week plan for everyone who suffers from unexplained weight gain (=paroxetine!!!!!):
For 2 weeks you put 3 tablespoons of pure Protein Powder (without carbs or fat) in 300 ml of water. You frink 6 shakes a day every 2 hours. This will fill up your Amino Acids what will help your body to function normaly again. Also it forces your body to burn fat.
I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks. And for those who want to say "Ofcourse you'll lose if you only drink shakes" I wanna say...please remember I gained fat from drinking just water and tea.
I hope this will help people. I had been researching for 2 years and nothing could help me except this 2 week plan. It is still not easy to keep the weight down but at least it is a beginning.
My Doc also said something really important: Depressions are a metabolism illness. You cannot cure them with paxil. Paxil will only make you think that the depressions are not there.

I take 40 mg of Paxil every day and have been on it for about 3 months I am the opposite of most of these posts I am losingweight I started at almost 190 and am now 160 i was concerned but for my height my doctor said Iam ok I also had gastric bypass 10 years ago and the lack of appetite I have is back to what it was right when i had the surgery. I am regularly monitered by my doc and im happy with the paxil it works VERY well for me.

Definitely going to stop taking this drug, I thought it was only me who gained soooooo much weight being on this drug. I've began taking this drug after I lost about 80 pounds and wanted to be able to talk to people easier, because I was happier with my self image. Unfortunately though, I have gained a lot of that weight back, and I thought that I was the main problem, that maybe i wasn't eating as good as i used to, but now i see that it is also Paxil's fault. I'm going to set up a doctor's appt ASAP, and begin with the omega and vitamin E, thanks to everyone for sharing!! I don't feel so lonely now!
