Hi there, I am a guy who is 23 years old. I am professional football player and I wuld like to know more about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I heard that young athletes have problems with this condition in some cases. Is this true? Thank you in advance for your valuable time. I wish if I can get an explanation pretty soon.

This is a disease of myocardium in which a portion of the myocardium is hypertrophied. There isn't any obvious reason for this. But you are right. Some athletes die because of this condition. This condition is inherited. Some of the symptoms are: chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, fatigue and fainting. Sometimes patients are asymptomatic. Cardiac transplantation is sometimes successful. That is all I know.
