If you are taking a cholesteral medication and it has to much stantins in it, your feet will be in pain and all your joints, I was on a certain brand and when they switched my brand I never had that before, just 1 of the reasons I know of that can cause that.

Hi there! I was reading these posts and yours was the only one that made sense to me. I too have gained weight in the past few years due to hypothyroid issues. Should have been on meds long ago. I was not expecting this to be some magic weight loss pill, but rather maybe just making it easier to shed some pounds, with the increase in metabolic rate.
I have only started today.
Questions for you ... how long did it take before you noticed a difference in the way you felt, I can often feel very tired and maybe a bit down. also have you been able to lose weight more readily since taking the meds?? I am taking levoxyl.
Thanks.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism/hashimotos at age 21, after spending months being told I had postpartum depression and that all I needed to do was get out an exercise more. Going to the gym daily and walking several miles most days of the week, I gained almost 80 lbs in about 3 months and finally topping out at about 250 lbs. Synthroid did nothing, my levels were normal but I still felt like hell and the weight wouldnt budge, so I finally got a doctor to put me on Armour. I managed to drop down to 180 for a few months but have gone back to about 195. This is with my armour dosage having been raised to 420mg a day. I eat very lean, and low carb, walk and go to the gym several times a week and now Ive been at this weight for about 3 years now. I wish there was more I could do. Having doctors tell me that hypothyroidism does not cause this sort of weight gain is infuriating because there are so many of us that it affects like this. I just want to feel like all the work Im putting in is getting me somewhere

I just requested armor thyroid after doing a lot of research. So far it's been two days and I'm surprised after staying up most of the night doing college homework and getting 3 hours of sleep that I'm not on my face right now with exhaustion. So I'm hoping it's the armor. It contains T3 and T4 and is naturally made rather then in a lab. I was on Levothyroxine for over a year and my levels started to come back normal for 6 months however I didn't feel any different and no weight came off so I went back and requested this. I'm a former Marine who was a 120 lbs 9 years ago soaking wet to being 27 and 180. I know to some that doesn't seem like a lot but that's 60 extra lbs on a small frame.. I'm in pain!
Just because levo didn't work for us doesn't mean it wont for you, everyone is different. I know a few women it worked great for. Give it a fair chance unless you can call your doc to ask for the armor before you get the levo.
Here is the link I suggest researching it some and to give levo a chance it takes about 3-4 weeks for any medication like this to fully get settled into your system so keep that in mind. Good luck!

Your right it's not a magic weight loss pill. I am one to be very exhausted all the time, cry to my self a lot for different reasons. It's an over all mentally emotionlly painful thing to deal with. You feel like a stranger to your self. I just switched from Levo to Armor litterly two days ago. So I'm not sure if it's the same rule of thumb to give it three weeks since I was already on a thyroid med. But I do feel a little more awake this morning which I find to be amazing since I pulled a very late night and only had time for about 3 hours of sleep and so far no coffee, however I'm going to have to get some to get my legs and arms on the same page as my mind. LOL So hard to say just yet on how this is going but I did research for months on armor before asking to be switched and was on Levo for over a year with no results, my dose was raised 4 times and I still couldn't hardly go a day with out needing a nap. I based what I did on the weekend off of how tired I knew it would make me. Being a mommy of 3 I don't want to miss out on these times napping. So I'm hopful. I have also been tested for a chronic mono and other things that could lead to being so tired and it all came back to the thyroid. So we wil see.
Good luck and I hope this helped.

Synthroid or L-Voxile (generic) is well known for gaining 30 lbs the first three months of being on that medication. I put on 30 lbs over 50 years ago and still have it plus.

I think the problem is not that we expect to automatically loose weight with the medication. I think that even the medication is working, loosing weight is extremely difficult. Meaning that we diet and exercise with no significant results. I have been doing the South Beach diet and exercising 3 or 4 times per week during four weeks, I only lost 2 pounds. My total extra weight is 10 pounds. The point is that if your metabolism is now back on track, diet and exercise should work effectively in the weight lose and it is not happening!!! that is the frustration. You go to the doctor and they just don't believe you, one doctor said that " she doesn't know what I do when I am at home" what does that mean? that she doesn't believe I am doing a very strict diet in no sugar, no carbs and exercising, because they don't believe they don't even bother in trying to find an answer and figure it out. I just think we should be referred to a specialist (endocrinologist) because simply a GP doesn't have enough knowledge to deal with this.
