Hey there,
Here is a list of most common symptoms, though you must note that some women do not have these symptoms and are feeling some others or do not notice symptoms at all. So, here is a list of hypothyroid symptoms: fatigue, weakness, weigh gain, brittle and dry hair, hair loss, dry skin, increased feeling of coldness, muscle cramps and muscle ache, weakness in muscles, constipation, irritability and depression, memory loss, increased and abnormal menstrual cycles, decreased libido.
If you hypothyroidism runs in your family, there is a greater chance of getting disease, but this is not necessary. Only doctor can determine (with a blood test) if you have one.
Good luck!

Is there anyway other than blood tests, that hypothyroidism can be diagnosed?  I have all the symptoms you've listed except for one (increased menstrual cycles) and have had lots of blood tests that keep coming back normal.  My gut feeling is that this is the cause and it also runs in my family.  I haven't been feeling "well" now for over 5 years and am getting VERY frustrated.  I was told to take my body temperature in the morning.  If it's low, it could mean the thyroid is not functioning properly.  I did this for 4 days and my average temperature was 94.4, which is low.  However, when I told my doctor, he didn't seem to care about that.  He just looks at the blood work.  I've heard it can be hard to diagnose through blood tests and that there are other ways to find out.  Can someone please help me?
