I am 24 and for one month now I am fighting with myself. I always want to cut myself... I am not sure why exactly I wanna do it. Sometimes I feel that I will no longer be able to control myself. Can someone tell me more about self injury? Is it really dangerous?

I advise you to seek professional help, because this is not something that you should ignore. Don't be embarrassed, talk to someone and let them know ho you are feeling. Self-injury can be defined as the attempt to deliberately cause harm to one's own body. The injury is usually severe enough to cause tissue damage. This is not a conscious attempt at suicide, even though some people see it that way. Many people who self-injure have a history of sexual or physical abuse. However, this is not always the case. Some of them come from broken or alcoholic homes, have emotionally absent parents, emotional problems etc. There are many factors that could cause someone to self-injure as a way to cope with the real life and the problems. There are three main types of self-injury. The most extreme form, and the rarest one is Major self-mutilation. This form results in permanent disfigurement, for example castration or limb amputation. Second form is Stereo typical self-mutilation which usually consists of head banging, eyeball pressing and biting. The third and most common form is Superficial self-mutilation which usually involves cutting, burning, bone breaking, hair-pulling, hitting, interference with wound healing. Basically any method used to harm oneself. We have to realize that everyone is dealing with the problems at their own way.
