Hi,

I was wondering if most people can feel a really hard bump just behind your uvula?

My doctor noticed a 'swelling' and I'm having investigations. I was wondering if this lump was it.

Any chance you guys could tell me what you can feel in yours?! Is it bone hard or softer? thanks

Hi there,

How do you mean just behind your uvula? Is it on the upper part of your throat or down where tonsils are located? The swelling can be caused by many things. However in many cases the swelling is caused by some sort of infection. Thing is that infection can be bacterial, viral or even fungal. So it is a good thing that you are doing these tests to find what is causing your lump. Do you have any pain when you swallow? Have you been using any medication for this lump? I know that in some cases even mouth wash can help with mild infections in the mouth.

Good luck with your treatment.

I found this on a site where doctors answer questions:

"The soft bony projection behind the uvula could be granulation over the posterior pharyngeal wall. This granulation tissue appears as a result of constant assault from conditions such as chronic inflammation of the tonsils, sinusitis, allergy (hay fever), pharyngitis, and gastro-esophageal reflux disease. In all these conditions, the posterior pharyngeal wall appears like cobble stone."

"The bony sensation you perceived over the posterior pharyngeal wall could be due to the bone - spinal vertebra, underlying the granulation tissue. It is very unlikely for a bony pathology do develop at that region. If at all there were to be any pathology, your doctor would have definitely subjected you to tests like CT scan/MRI to find the cause of the bony projection."

I'm just curious if you still have this? I have had mine for several yrs and I'm still not satisfied with what I've been told it is. I've been told that it's my vertebrae.

I wondered that about mine, because I've had neck injuries. I don't have an answer yet. Just discovered it today and don't remember it. I am wondering if it might change if I go get some chiropractic. However, I also used to smoke cigarettes and occasionally smoke cannabis, and I recently had my neck x-rayed for my last body injury and wonder if it might be radiationally caused perhaps, but also my son has positive tests for covid, mine have been negative, even by the doctors, and yet I have fevers up and down just like he does, and perhaps this is a side effect or something, but it either seems like a very hard marble type bump or the interior part of my throat that touches a vertebrae and it's the anterior side of the vertebrae. I do massage therapy but not interoral massage except for on myself, because I don't have the certification. However, I don't remember this on myself before, although I've had some red and/or white bumps occasionally on my cheeks on the inside/interior of the mouth over by where one might accidentally bite the side of the cheek. I am hoping it's not the worst is all, and that if some sort of remedy or surgery is needed for it, that I can have the procedure, live through it, and be back to how I am right now hopefully because I finally like myself more in life even if not everything is perfect and might never be perfect. It could also mean something spiritually and this is the physical aftermath effect. Not sure. Anyways, I tend to consider all aspects as much as possible of the holistic. I am not sure what this is and Personally do not have any answers for you, but someone else might! :) May God bless us with positive answers about this as much as possible, if it's the Father's will in Jesus' Mighty and Healing and Perfect Name, amen.

Im so sorryto hear ehat you're going through. I know it takes a tole. I am having a similar issue. A few days ago I noticed this bony lump right behind my uvula about the width of a pinky tip.. Of course I panicked and googled. Looks to be the most common answer is that it is the atlas bone. I went to my dentist yesterday who didn't see anything (neither do I) but seemed to think it unlikely to be able to feel the atlas bone from inside the throat but admitted that this is not his area of expertise. He referred me to an oral surgeon
My appointment isn't for a month and I'm having a hard time at the thought of waiting that long for an answer..... I also just recovered from covid about a month ago. I wondered as well if it could be from that. Other thoughts of what it could be from: I have post nasal drip and acid reflux that gives me cobblestone throat. Maybe some irritation from that
I also have had some neck injuries from car accidents a few years back.
I grind and clench my teeth. Maybe bones and muscles are all out of whack from that.
Other thought is that everyone has this and its just more prominent in some than others. Also most people don't go poking around in their throats. Lol. Does this sound like what you are experiencing?

Hi,
I've just discovered I have this too. Did you ever get an answer after seeing throat surgeon?
I too have gord and co blestone throat. Also other problems that cause many mouth and throat ulcers. Not sure if any of this is related or even if this is a new lump!
Any information appreciated.

Hi, guys.

It is possible that the lump is a swollen lymph node. This could be due to an infection, such as a cold or the flu, or it could be due to an allergy. If the lump does not go away after a few days, it is important to see a doctor for further evaluation.

Depending on the cause, the doctor may recommend medications such as antibiotics or antihistamines. They may also recommend a course of watchful waiting, or they may order a biopsy.

Good luck.
