I have a "Lump in my throat sensation" after my tonsillectimy. It had been 6 weeks now and its still there. They put me on anti-reflux drugs that did not work. Now Xanax to relax the muscles n my throat but its still there... They said the op had gone perfectly and after a quick inspection today with a torch and mirror say it all looks fine. BUT ITS NOT! And to top it off my taste buds are 50% of what they used to be, almost 0% for sweet things. Are these things related? What is wrong with me!? Anyone experienced the same?

Kelly,
Trust me you're not the only one! Are you still having the problem? I had my surgery 3 1/2 months ago and I have a constant lump in my throat and pain in my ears. All the ENTs I've seen keep telling me I'm fine which just flat-out makes them a crappy doctor. What I think it is is the soft pallet swelling from scar tissue causing an obstruction in swallowing. Does your voice sound more nasaly? Are you having trouble breathing? I think the air isn't getting to your nose, that's why you're not tasting as well. I have all the same symptoms. Everything I've read so far has been about more surgery. I think that might be the only cure. I would look into Craniofacial Surgens... wall actually, I AM looking into Craniofacial Surgens. And before you make another apointment with a doc, make sure you talk to him on the phone. I'm sick of these idiots telling me I'm fine! And I'm sure you are too. Please let me know if anything has developed or if you still have problem. I'm desperately searching for a cure!

I'm 4 weeks & 2 days post-op & I have a very similar problem. I feel like a cotton-ball is stuck in the back of my throat. It makes me gag & vomit constantly. I'm still taking a dose the liquid percoset to sleep (problem is MUCH worse when I'm lying down). I went for a check-up last week & he put a scope up my nose to look down my throat & said everything looked normal.

One weird thing is before my tonsils were out, you could see all the way in the back of my throat - now, the uvula and soft palate have "flopped" down so it's blocking the back of my mouth. Anyone else out there - I'm hoping this goes away, but I'm not feeling too confident... :-(

I was there and I am still there in your shoes. I had tosolectomy 2 years ago. I have been feeling a lump in my throat since then. For 2 years I try to get used to it but I could not. Recently, I had another surgery. Not so good, I still feel the lump so far. Be careful about more surgeries, you never know how it would heal...

Hi there, I am wondering why the second surgery didn't work. Did you talk to your doctor aout why it didn't work?

At my 2 weeks post-op visit, my doctor checked and said it looked fine. It looked like what he expected. He said to give it more time for the tissue to heal. Now, 5 weeks passed, as the new scar tissue harden and contracts, my tongue still feel a lump or a hard edge there. It drives me crazy! My doctor cut some old scar tissue and also did scar tissue reversal. Anyway, I still feel the same if not worse than before the 2nd surgery. I pretty much have to give up now. It is depressing. There is no hope! The only thing I can do is to wait and hoping I will get used to it eventually.

That does sound pretty frustrating but I'm glad to hear that there's at least SOMETHING they can do. They might not have been able to fix the scar tissue at all. How have you been otherwise?

It is hard to be happy when I feel a lump in the throat all the time. Thanks for asking though. I have been searching the site but have not found any solution and remedy yet.

I have searched the internet over and over on this topic and finally found this. I had a really bad impacted wisdom tooth removed March 23rd 2018
That first week my face was so swollen and I had what looked like a bag at my chin throat area. After the first week the swelling went down. Week later I can’t eat anything I have a feeling of choking.... but the oral surgeon says you are fine healing well. I went to see one of tenants which is an ent and she did a scope and said everything looked pretty normal .. ulvua a little swollen so she sent me prednisone. She said in a few days that chokIng/ limo feeling should be gone. Today is the 10 th and nothing has changed I’m pureeing everything and doing a swallow test in two days. How do you guys eat with this feeling? It gives me extreme anxiety?
