Hi everyone, I tried to find a topic on bleeding but had no success, so I'm starting one now.

I'm on day 8 and just had my first bleed. It stopped with about 3 glasses of ice water.

I'm wondering if it's best to keep with a steady intake of water, to keep it moist, or allow it to dry a bit so it won't continue bleeding.

Also, I feel like my bleeding side looks a lot worse than it should. The whole area where my tonsils used to be looks extremely raw, like chopped up bleeding meat. Dark red and gross.

Is this normal?

Hi kitri, I think that you should keep drinking water. It should dry out on its own regardless of whether you keep it moist or not. If it looks really bad though I think you might want to run that by your doctor and see if it's a source of concern. It isn't particularly with me but I think it's best to get a professional opinion too. What do you think?

There was no more bleeding all day till a few hours ago, when it just bled a tiny bit. All the gross looking stuff is gone and it looks more similar to the other side, so I'm not too worried. If the same side bleeds again tomorrow, I'll call the doc.

Thank you for your reply. :-)

Just an update:

I ended up having three more bleeding scenes, so I scheduled an appointment with a doctor. The bleeds weren't severe enough to rush to the ER, but I wanted to make sure everything was okay.

The doctor took one look at my throat and sent me into emergency surgery. I was really nervous about it and didn't want to start my recovery over, but I am feeling absolutely FANTASTIC after this second surgery. I know it might be some of the hospital medication, but everything seems so much cleaner and on the path to full recovery. I can actually form words now and don't have to worry about bleeding. :-D

If anyone has persistent bleeding, I recommend seeing your ENT to check it out! It might be the best possible thing you can do!!

Hi kitri,
I'm just wondering did doctor tell you why he rushed you to this emergency surgery? Can you give us a little more info about this.
And it has been a few days so give us an info about you condition now. I hope that you are doing well.

Hi everyone! It's exactly 3 weeks after my surgery and I am feeling fantastic, almost 100%. Only hurts a bit when I eat too much, yawn, and sneeze! So the end is near for you, too!!

The second surgery really helped, so don't be afraid to get to the ER if you need to. I'm not sure why the doctor said I needed emergency surgery, but probably because the area where the bleed came from was pretty bad and he wanted to correct the damage before it got worse, since the blood vessel was connected to my tongue and would be in danger of bleeding anytime I talked.

I hope everything goes well for everyone else! It'll just be a bad memory soon.

HI kitri,
It seams that you are very happy now. Good that you are doing all better.
Are you using any medicine now?

I think that's great advice. SO mnay people get sick because they DON"T go to the doctor when they need to and that causes serious issues. Thanks for the update!
