10/23/08 I am in the Albuquerque area and was told to go to the ER last week when my calcium level tested at 15.8. I wasn't feeling any worse than before when my level was at 13.5 about 2 weeks previously. I drank gallons of water and was given a diuretic (lasix), my blood was tested again and was lower, so I was allowed home. I have now found out that I will have to wait until January or February for surgery as the surgeon is booked until then. I was under the impression that levels over 14 were considered to be a crisis and even the doc at the ER said that he's had patients die at a level 15. At present, I am drinking as much as possible and eating as little calcium as humanly possible, but my whole family is very stressed with the knowledge that I could suffer heart and/or kidney problems or even a stroke while I am waiting. Am I simply super-human and therefore they consider that waiting won't be a problem for me or is it that what they call a crisis isn't really that much of a crisis? I have scoured the internet and haven't seen anyone mention having such a high calcium count. Is it OK for me to wait 3 months - does anyone have any experience of such a high calcium level?
