I have recently started getting that feeling of breathing in a smoked filled room. It is stronger in my house, but it happens in the car, at work, in restaurants. Not outside! Just a tip for everyone: Last night I tried putting Lavendar essential.oils on my pillow. I think that might have given my brain something to work with. It did not just mask the feeling of the smoke. It overcame it and it allowed me to relax and sleep well. This problem was keeping me up most of the night. I slept great last night. Please let us know if you try this and if it works. I am going to keep a bottle of oil on me all day. It does not take more than a drop

I too am happy to see that I am not crazy, it's a thing! I smell disgusting cigarette smoke at radom times, usually at work
One thing I am going to try is to clean out my nose/sinuses. I was told to slowly drip Chinese black tea into my nose and let it sit for a bit, and then lean forward and let it drip out. Evidently our passages get old mucus hanging around, just like your ears, and it smells bad! Also saline nasal spray, rinse rinse!! Good luck!

I was also smelling smoke all the time. It was giving me headaches and my eyes were sore. My Dr told me how to get rid of it. It is due to acid reflux that burns the back of the throat and nose. I didn't even now I had acid reflux. First thing in the morning (has to be first thing when your stomach is empty) drink a glass of warm water. Then raise your arm out level with the shoulders the turn your hands in palms facing down till your fingers touch. Raise up onto your toes and drop down back hard onto your heels. Do this ten times. Then pant past through your mouth for 15 to 20 seconds. I was to stay of coffee, tea and fizzy drinks. I also had a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a small amount of water 10 minutes before meals. Within the day I no longer was smelling smoke after weeks of misery. I have not smelt smoke now for nearly 3 weeks. I know the instructions sound strange but give it a try, what have you got to lose except the smell of smoke.

I've been dealing with this for 2 years as well. I took a 'touch' lamp from my bedside and that seems to have helped. It seems to have something to do with electricity, because even when I was around the computer or T.V, the smoke smell would be there, but since I've taken the lamp out of the bedroom (a month and a half ago), I've been bothered less. Someone also told me that it could be caused from having a neurological parasite (blood fluke), so now we are trying to figure out how to rid it! Good Luck! The doctors haven't been able to help me with it and I've been through all the testing with them!

Try 2 drops of chlorine bleach in 1 cup water plus your usual amount of salt in your neti pot. I did it before I went to bed and now it seems to be gone. I've tried all the suggestions others have tried. So far this is the only thing that has worked for me. I'm thinking it's some kind of fungus or bacteria in my sinus.

I have had Trigeminal Neuralgia for almost 2 years now & am taking Carbamazepine which is also used for seizures. I also take medication for Afib. This smoking smell just started a few months ago & is driving me crazy. I feel like I won't know if there is a real fire or a stroke symptom. I kept telling my son to check my car because I thought it was burning up. I can do candles at home, but not at work. Glad to not be alone & hope if anyone gets any answer they will post again.

A person ( 33 yr old step son) in my house started smoking regularly, and my sinus, throat, tongue and chest started to tingle like they did when I smoked 36 years ago. Then he said he quit. the tingling has not stopped. When ever he comes in the house after work, the symptoms come back. When my sinus are in the agitated state I am very sensitive to anyone cooking with onion, garlic, pepper, and other spices. The cats odor bothers me and it never did before.
Because it doesn't have the same effect on my wife, she wants me to see a doctor. My wife is an RN so everything to her is a medical problem. The ex-?-smoker who lives at my house has a car in Florida with no A/C and uses it to do sales out of his car (think he sweats some ?)
When the ex-smoker or I leave for 3 or 4 days I go back to normal. The ex-smoker says He can't smell anything.

This is exactly how I feel! Almost like a heaviness or thickness in my chest when I breath, like it would be if you were around smoke! I've been to ENT, dentist, my PCP and no one has given me an answer.
