Hi, Sooo pleased to have found you all on here. I've been on a cocktail of meds including tramadol for years due to a back injury. I am 6wks pregnant and tried the cold turkey using co-codymol instead, however....... Aaaarrrgggghhhhh!!!!! I list it big style last night and this morning, totally went mad and couldn't cope at all. I've ended up taking tramadol again, and am now continuing with it until I see the midwife and ob consultant. It can not possibly be good for my baby to experience how I felt today! Has anyone else tried to stop and had to restart? Anyone in the uk?

I tried many times to quit and the wd's were so awful I just could not do it. I cut down to about 4 pills per day during the 1st trimester and went back up to 8-10 during the 2nd and 3rd. My baby came 4 weeks early so I never cut down again before delivery. I am sitting here feeding him now. He is healthy as can be.

If you're pregnant and keep using Tramadol, you're risking a miscarriage or having your baby born with birth defects. Every woman is different though and what goes for one doesn't have apply to another.

Tramadol can also cause impaired fertility.

I see you asked this question over a year ago so I hope you and your baby are fine!

(Been using Tramadol for 2.5 years, 300mg/day so I've asked my GP lots of questions about everything Tramadol)

*doesn't have to apply to another

P.S. Ladies! NEVER try to quit Tramadol on your own!

Hi...not to scare anyone but I didhave a miscarriage once because of tramadol. However...I was taking way too much. About 1200 mg at that time. I was about 6 wks. Now I've learned to manage my pain on 150 to 200 mg and I'm 19 wks. It's either this or vicoden.

In 2010, my son was born with a VSD (Ventricular Septum Defect) an 8mm hole. The doctors told me repeatedly that this is a congenital defect and that I didn't do anything wrong. I never took any pain killers during the pregnancy, only Tylenol. I don't understand why you think tramadol caused your child's death. Don't blame yourself for taking them. This condition comes either from you or the father.

Hi there! I just read your article and I wanted to check and see how your baby is and if there were any birth defects caused from tramadol? I take 25mg once a day and am 3 months along. I am terrified that I've prevented full development of any organs possibly. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Nobody knows because I feel like they wouldn't understand or would just think in a horrible person.

Hi..my son is 20months and I took tramadol the entire time I was pregnant. I was taking 8 50mg tablets at 1st got down to 3 50mg but because I had a 3 month old when I found out u was pregnant again my back pain was far to bad to not take anything. My OB told me to take them as needed and I wasn't honest with him until a wk before my scheduled induction that I took them everyday. He said it should be fine but reading different things in line about withdraws had me scared to death. My son was born with mild withdraws and within 3 days they were gone.

Hi I'm 32 weeks along now and am still on 8 50mg aday my doc/Ob knows this/ prescribes this for me iv had extra scans ie 4d scans that iv payed extra for and also my Ob has arranged an extra scan at 33 weeks because of the tramadol and everything so far is perfect with my baby I'm so guilt ridden but have such bad arthritis and such a hard pregnancy on my body I feel awfull but my Ob says it's absolutely fine obviously being on nothing is ideal but she says she has patience on metherdone, morphine and other drugs it's the anti inflammatory drugs and things like methotrexate and some steroid drugs that cause birth defects I am not in any way saying that taking pain killers are ok during pregnancy but some people have no choice or the strength him completely struggerling with my addiction I really hope this has helped once iv had the baby I can let you know how it goes if you like? I'm so glad you have written all the posts we're so old that I find xxxxx

Im 12 weeks pregnant and Im addicted to Tramadol I am currently trying to ween myself off of it. This has proven to be really rough. I came across this page and i must say it was a relief to know I am not alone in this struggle. I am currently on day 3 of taking one a day the withdraws are still coming just not as bad as they were when i attempted cold turkey. I just wanted to thank everyone that has shared their story because you have really help give me strength to do this. I have given up cigarettes and even caffeine but Tramadol just seems to have an evil hold. I know its going to be rough for a bit I mean after taking anything for over 3yrs straight for a herniated disc its going to be hard to come off of. I wish the doctor would have done better research and i would have too before starting this. I will be sure to post an update on how I am doing coming off of Tramadol and how the baby is doing again ladies thank you for posting your stories you have really been a sorce of strength for me in a battle that feels so lonely
