I took tramadol during pregnancy I didn't know I was pregnant until 14 weeks. My son was born perfectly healthy but he is 2 1/2 and also has what has been diagnosed as a speech delay :( I can't help but wonder if it's from the tramadol as I have seen similar stories :(

Hello Thank you for this page, have been reading all these posts. I have arthritis (Lupus kind), chronic Lyme and some nerve damage. I have had so bad pain in my legs that I have been unable to stand on my feet for 2 minutes, that's why I was taking about 200mg tramal a few months before pregnancy. The pain eased after the Lupus kind of condition (UCTD) was treated with Plaquenil so I would only be taking 50mg Tramal and not every day. Then I started to have horrible migraines and stopped taking Tramal and Plaquenil because I wanted to see if it was because of the meds. And then I became pregnant and the stopping of Plaquenil was a mistake, I fell into a terrible flare, I couldn't walk and the Plaquenil was started again and I also needed to take Tramal. The migraines had been on for months without any brake. I was falling apart. Still, the doctors have been very unkind and did not understand the use of Tramal even if I took only 3 of 50mg capsules a week. I have felt so alone, but thanks to this site I have been able to give myself a little mercy. I am now 21 weeks pregnant and have been taking the Tramal the entire time, 50mg a day if needed. The few weeks in the beginning of the pregnancy I took less if any. When there is less pain I try not to take it so I wouldn't take every day, but it happens easily that you take every day because it helps the pain well so that I can do some things. I plan to quit before the delivery if possible. I try to remember to come back to tell you how it went. I also take Plaquenil 5 days a week for the arthritis. The rheumy started it. Without the Plaquenil I would not be able to stand on my feet.

I am currently almost 8 months pregnant and have taken tramadol my entire pregnancy. I was taking about 400 mg when I first found out I was pregnant. I managed to do lower and lower doses. I use to take 2 at a time, eventually went to 1 at a time, then started timing the hours I could go without a pill and staying on a schedule. Now i take 1/2 a pill 3 times a day. Its annoying, but the less you take, the leas chance of baby having withdrawals. As far as hurting the fetus, my baby is very healthy at every appointment. I truly believe the only harm that can be done by using tramadol during pregnancy is a chance of withdrawl but if i can get down, so can you. I was addicted for years! Prayer also helps!

I just left my doctors and after finding out that i am almost 9 weeks pregnant, the doctor told me to stay on the Tramedol. I only take the minimum needed. My Dr. and the pharmacist consulted on the meds I am taking and I was told by them that there is no structurual or any other birth defect directly associated with Tramedol, BUT it does cause withdrawl symptoms in the baby. So I was advised that 2 weeks before due date I will be whined off of it slowly so that the baby will not go through any discofort or withdrawl syptoms at birth. The fact that I can enjoy my first pregnancy relatively pain free and my baby won't suffer is a huge blessing. I seem to be getting alot of blessings right now. Hope this helps out the ones who are feeling guilty and conflicted right now.

with my last child three years ago, i went through the worst pain in my entire life, i have severe arthrits and joint problems. i am now taking tramadol and just found out i am pregnant..i have read many posts and alot of informaiton..i know in my heart that there is no right answer, the true answer will be to cut down and taper off as soon as the day you find out! the pain will have to be indured..again, the late night crying of my bones feeling like there is a vice crushing them, the look in my familes eyes, the sorrow they will feel for me, but in the end this baby and your baby will come out into this world addicted to nothing, healthy and weighing a good normal weight...in the end that is ALL that matters, we as mothers can endure anything for the sake of our child and childre

I read over these posts again and again during my pregnancy and I promised myself I would come back after I had my baby. Well she is 6 weeks now and perfect. I am so in love. I had 2 second trimester miscarriages and finally have my baby. I took about 10 during the 1st and 2nd tri's and then took the third to taper slowly. I got down to 7 in a matter of a couple days and stayed there for a few weeks. Got down to about 4 a day and stayed until the end. I was scared but it turned out just fine. She was perfect. No withdrawals or anything. Just get down as far as possible and try not to stress or worry. That is not good for the baby either. Also, I did not tell my OB what was going on. I will pray for you ladies. God was there with me, and that was the only way I was able to get as far as I did. LOVE!!!!!!

I just found out that I am pregnant. Been taking tramadol for 5 years now for a lower back pain. I am scared about my baby. However I have been told that I can take the tramadol while I am pregnant. I take 8 a day. I am also a nurse and have seen many babies born with mothers on narcotics and other harsher drugs and the babies were fine. My doctor stated that I could even breast feed if I wanted to but I am not going to . I am going to continue my regimen for I need it for my pain. People who do not know what it is like to have chronic pain or have an addiction do not understand what we are going through. It is not that easy. Take a deep breathe and know that everything will be ok.
