Are there people who can not get malaria? Apart from those with sicle cell.


Sickle cell is the most common known medical condition that protects from the malaria infection. But the answer to your question is yes, there are other disease that gives you more resistance to malaria or that gives some degree of protection that make the chance of having the severe form of malaria really small. They are basically other red cell diseases, like hemoglobinopathies:  Alfa thalassemia, HbC , HbE, and also erythrocyte polymorphisms. Unfortunately there still very few and small studies about other diseases that protects against malaria. But I was thinking why did you have this question? Are you travelling to a malarial area?
