My baby was diagnosed with a cystic hygroma at his first ultrasound. The doctor told me he had a 10% chance of survival. He gave me two numbers one was for an abortion clinic and the other for another doctor. I almost made the abortion choice with the doctors grim outlook. But I didn't and thank god I went to the specialist that was extremely positive and optimistic person. My son is now 8 years old. His Hygroma regressed through out the pregnancy. He was born perfect! Please Don't make the decision to abort on one doctors opinion. I was so close to making a terrible mistake! Get a second opinion, or third, or fourth. These things can regress and go away! Have hope! Miracles do happen!

I gave birth to a baby boy with cystic hygroma in November. We found out at 20 weeks pregnant, and went through every test available. He has no chromosome abnormalities or heart defects. He is healthy, expect for the cyst. We are now undergoing injection treatment into the cysts. There are a lot and it will take time, but he is a healthy baby boy and developing normally.
Keep positive. There is always hope for a miracle baby, like ours!

My baby was diagnosed with a cystic hygroma at 9 weeks. The cystic hygroma measured 5.7 mm. We were referred to McMaster for testing. We had an amnio done at 15 and 1/2 weeks. The results came back normal and we found out that we are having a girl. After that we went in for an anatomy ultrasound. The cystic hygroma had resolved itself and her developement was normal. We went back for another ultrasound, this time to look for any heart defects, this also came back normal. They have offered more testing, but we have decided that we are happy with the results from the other tests and would like to take this time to relax and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy. The doctor is still very cautious, saying there could be other defects that the tests didn't pick up, but we now have a 97% chance of having a healthy baby girl! I know that many moms have lost their baby due to a cystic hygroma, and my heart goes out to all of you, as I have gone through two miscarriages myself and know the heartbreak that comes with losing your baby, but I want to give some hope to those out there who have been told that their baby has a cystic hygroma, there is hope! Get the testing that is offered to you and your baby, so you can make informed choices. All babies are precious!! God bless!

Sorry to hear about your experiences with cystic hygroma. I have a daughter that was diagnosed when I was 7 months pregnant. It was a difficult delivery but the doctors were prepared. She stayed in NICU for 10 weeks, although she was full term, and it was all due to complications due to the cystic hygroma. She had to get a tracheotomy tube at 4 weeks because the cyst was so large in neck and face area it blocked her airway. She kept it for 8 years and have been hospitalized atleast 30 times because of complications. She has had numerous surgeries til finally they said there was nothing else successfully for them to do. She is 16 now and it still affects her life daily. Life has been a struggle for her (us) physically, mentally emotionally, and financially. She gets ridiculed on a daily basis because of how she looks. So my heart goes out to any family that is dealing with this abnormality. Unfortunately, we were unable to have any more children so I don't know the likelihood of it happening again, although our doctors assured us that it would not.

Hi, My baby was born with a Cystic Hygroma on SIDE of her right side neck. We were unable to identify this during my pregnancy. Now she's 2 1/2 years old beautiful girl but still suffering with this sickness. She did a one major operation when she was in 3 months and removed that liquid from neck, chest and ear area. Also she followed some injection courses as well. But my little girl still suffering from this sickness and we are searching a proper medical treatments to recover her. Last week we did a MRI scan to check her current situation and the result was bad again. It started to speared through her face, neck and other parts.
We need to find a treatment to bring her back to normal...If anybody know anything about a good doctor or a treatment please please let me know.

hi I found out my baby had a septated cystic hygrovma at my very first scan. Since then I have done all the tests that I could, I couldnt have cvs because the baby had grew in the week i was waiting for it so i waited and had amniosentisis done at around 18 weeks.
I was told that yes 50% of babies with this fluid would have a chromosone abnormality an d if it did only 5% of these fetus's actually survive thru pregnancy and many of the syndromes cause lots of problems.
I didnt have any chromosone abnormalities, so testing well I say testing its just loands of detailed scans with my consultant continued. The thing she said they need to rule out are bone syndromes in particular where the bones dont grow right and therefor cause problems to heart, lungs kydneys etc cos they dont protect them and ultimately the baby would die if this happens, the next thing was to make sure all its major organs are functioning, the heart you cant get a clear idea about till about 22 weeks.
With myself so far and I am now 27 weeks nothing has been found other than this fluid which should not be there! My consultant is continueing to see me every 2 weeks to monitor the fluid which is around the babies chest as a thickenin of skin it was originally at the nape of babies neck, but so far there seems to be nothing else wrong and the consultant says that when the baby is born it will not look any different as we are talking about A hygrom of 10mil 14 mil which although classed as a large cystic hygroma it is minute in real terms.
Its been really hard as I cant obviously enjoy the pregnancy and dread all my appointments but looking online as everyone does terrified me and i thought for sure the baby was going to die way before now and its still here and having no problems so all i can say is get the tests done, and keep going for the scans and hopefully at the end we will both go on to have healthy children.
My consultant is really good and says that the fluid can be caused by a vast number of things some they can see on scans like the bones not developing right and others they cant. It could be things like a heart murour, or just that babies drainage system hasnt kicked in fully.
At one of my scans there was fluid in babies kydneys but two weeks later they had started functioning and drained by them selves so not everything functions straight away in fetus's.
I hope I have gave you some idea of what to expect and if you have an amnio, it isnot sore and will put your mind at rest a little if the babies chromosones come back normal.

We have just had our 12 week scan ultrasound found a 8.0 hygroma on its neck we are so worried to what the specialist might tell us next Tuesday. We have one beautiful 2 year old girl IVF and this one is also IVF. The doctors don't have much hope but want to be sure before we make that hard decision

I'm 20 weeks pregnant, got a complete ultrasound, and the doctor told me that baby had a non-nuchal cystic lymphangioma on the right posterior of the neck. I'm really scared and worried. Does anyone know anything or is going through this? My baby is still in a womb.
Thank you
