I have vulvar dysplaxia. This condition causes severe itching at times. There are two kinds one can turn to cancer and the other usually doesn't. Mine usually doesn't. It also causes the skin to turn white on vulva. All gynecological conditions should be seen by a professional gyne doctor. No one should just rely on the internet for diagnosis. I am only telling you what I have. Steroid creams used for certain conditions can cause thinning of the skin. I have to go back in July. I have had a vulvar biopsy which came back negative in the past year. It is also best to get checked out by a doctor instead of guessing. It may be cause for concern or it may not be. Ive noticed parts of my labia and hood have turned pure white as well. I too am 56. Are any of you sexually active? I find if I use my vibrator, when finished the blood circulation has turned most of the white areas back to red. Hope this bit of info helps. So possibly, it could be linked to inactivity and poor circulation.

Hi , I'm 56 and have had same thing for couple years . It has a name that I can't spell lol but if u google white vulva it comes up .... I had to have biopsy on mine which is normal thing , and regular check ups with dermatologist. U might notice the lips disappear too which is so strange . Go to doctors and get it diagnosed....

I have this very same issue. It's the inner labia, the smallest one. Two years ago I looked in a mirror and saw that just the top edge of the skin had turned white but when I looked at it yesterday, the entire labia skin is white. It isn't painful and last year I saw a gynecologist about it. All she did was prescribe a steroid ointment but it did nothing. I am 63 years old and don't take replacement hormones. I wonder if this has anything to do with it. I also have mad itching down there but not internally. I'm going to find another doctor and see what they can tell me.

Your story sounds a lot like mine. I am 63 and about two years ago or more the inner labia had a white hard edge on it. Along with that I had and still have, mad itching. Never internally, always externally. I went to a gynecologist last year and she prescribed a steroid ointment and said not to use it too much so of course I didn't. The ointment wasn't effective so I stopped using it. I looked in the mirror yesterday and now the entire labia is white. I don't know if this is related to the itching but I don't believe it is. The labia itself doesn't itch, it's the areas around it. I have an appointment next week with a new doctor so I will get a referral to a gyno doc.
I'm guessing that because I don't take hormone replacements maybe this is the reason why the labia turned white and it's why I have the insane itching. It's hell being a woman sometimes and it's worse being an OLDER woman.

The whiteness is probably accompanied by itchiness. Consult your doctor as it is a sign of dryness and if not treated could become serious. Estrogene cream and steroïd cream solves the problem.
