Same here... Im am very irregular, Had my period for the month of may, 6th - a 28 day cycle and then for the month of june i had my menstruation on the 12th - a 37 day cycle and it lasted for 3 days which is not normal for me because most often it lasts for about 5-7 days. I am suffering from tenderness of breast and cramps and again my period came on the 30th of june. 18 days gap, i am worried that i am suffering from any underlying problems. Is it just that I ovulate twice? or an advamce mens?

I haven't been on birth control for almost two years nor am I under a lot of stress but I have two periods a month here and there. A friend mentioned peri-menopause which can happen ten years prior to actual menopause. My Ob/Gyn wants me to come back in for tests.

When do you go to the ob/gyn? I think that if you're having two periods a month that it is plausible, and I think that it's worth investigating. Keep us posted on how it goes, okay?

I had my tubes tied in dec. 2008 and i have had non stop bleeding since then......I asked about the peri menopause thing ( because i am only 29) She told me that that would only cause heavier bleeding not continuous bleeding.....if i were you i would definately go in and get more testing done. There could be a number of different things causing 2 periods in one month.

Hi,
I am also suffering with the same problem. periods twice a month . It feel too frustrating. but my issue is little different. i am married but still not active with Sex life. we both are working entirely in opposite shifts. We meet only on weekends and that too almost i have periods at that time. does inactive sexual life gives this issue?
My cycle is too short but very regular. From last 3 months after i stopped taking BC pills, my cycle is exactly 18 days everytime. Not even a single day over or less. I got the thryoid test done which was negative and also got the ultrasound of Pelvis where results were normal. Still i m facing this issue. I want to conceive but i m jst scared what this issue is taking me upto?

Hi, I have been reading the posts and have a similar case. I have been on bc for about a year now. It is not the first time I have ever been on bc, but had been years since I had used them. Anyway, for about 4 months now my hair has become extremely brittle and has been falling out by the handfuls. I have also been having 2 periods a month. One about two weeks before I am supposed to have the scheduled period. This is very frustrating. Any thoughts? Oh, and just wondering if any of the same cases posted were taking Yaz, because that is what I have been taking.

Since November 09 I've been having irregular periods. I had one that ended on the 12th of November. The next started on the 27th and I thought that wasn't too strange... but then the next started on the 17th of December. I thought ti was weird but I shrugged it off. Then I started another one 11th of January and I was pretty upset. Today I've started another and its barely been ten days since it ended :/. Also I've had spotting three days prior to bleeding. I'm scared to talk to my mom about it because every time I do she says she doesn't want to know about my lady problems. So she also won't take me to a Gyno if I asked and more than likely if I asked for Birth Control to regulate it she'd accuse me of being sexually active....

Two Periods a Month
The most common reason for bleeding twice in one calendar month occurs when a normal period begins on the first or second day of the month, and then another arrives at the very end; because the normal cycle length (from the first day of one to the first day of the next) ranges from 23 to 35 days, this can allow two perfectly normal periods to arrive in the same calendar month. Most of the time, however, when women talk about having two periods in a month, they are not referring to this circumstance. Often they mean they are starting a period every two weeks or so -- certainly less than the 23-day interval that is considered within the normal range.
Anything that can disrupt the delicate hormonal dance that produces ovulation can lead to either skipped periods or periods that come too often. Hormonal imbalance as a cause of frequent periods is often seen as a woman nears menopause. Thyroid dysfunction may also be a factor.
Another reasons for twice-a-month periods is abnormal thickening of the uterine lining. This thickening can be due to hormonal imbalance or to taking estrogen without a progesterone medication as well; estrogen causes the uterine lining to proliferate and become thick and lush, while progesterone thins out the lining; a balance between these two hormones is necessary to ensure regular, moderate periods.
Polyps (projections of tissue that protrude into the uterine cavity) or fibroids that impinge on the uterine cavity may also cause irregular periods. In this case, the uterine lining tissue that overlies these projections is less stable, increasing the chance that it will be shed at an inappropriate time. Also, fibroids and polyps increase the surface area of the uterine lining, often leading to prolonged and heavier bleeding.
If your periods are coming less than 23 days apart (counted from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next), then you should see your gynecologist. A biopsy may be necessary to rule out an abnormal thickening of the uterine lining. Blood tests may be done to assess hormone levels. Most of the time the reason for frequent bleeding is benign, but occasionally the problem can be more serious; for this reason, and because excess bleeding can lead to anemia, too-frequent periods must be investigated.

I had two periods a mo for 5-6 yrs. I am 45 now. Finally went to a specialist. Folic Acid/B vitamin deficiency. I was Anemic. Not iron anemic -folic acid anemic. Folic acid and folate cannot be stored in the liver and I don't like bread or cereal or leafy green veggies. Fixed in days. It is diagnosed with a simple blood test.

I'm 18 years old and in a committed relationship, I have experienced really irregular periods since I started my menstrual cycle when I was 13. I didn't really worry about it, as I was told my body would come to a natural rhythm eventually, but for the last six or so months I have been getting my period every two weeks and this is bothering me now as my partner and I are trying to concieve. I lost my virginity eight weeks ago and we've had sex five times since then, but I've just started my period yesterday. I havent taken the pill for a year or so and my mother has told me she fell pregnant very easily, with her first-my brother- in the first month of trying, and she said that her periods didn't become regular until she'd had children. It's odd because I experienced some pregnancy symptoms in the weeks after we started trying but I have had two quite heavy periods and I've taken quite a few pregnancy tests which were all negative. I'm thinking I may have just been getting my hopes up, but I've been experiencing an odd brown discharge between periods which has never happened to me before. I'm seeing my GP next week but would really appreciate any suggestions. How long do you think it will take for me to concieve? Thanks, and best of luck to all of you :-)

There is a condition called PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. A condition that is often correlated with glucose intolerance (also known as insulin resistance). Your hormones become imbalanced and your ovaries are almost always covered in cysts. I suffer with this and my periods have been irregular for the past 2 years. I also found out that I had Stage 2 HPV, which results in cervical cancer if left untreated. Please get checked by your GY's. An ultrasound scan of your ovaries will be able to determine whether or not you have the condition PCOS and a basal blood count can determine if you are glucose intolerant. GI can lead to diabetes if left unmanaged, so it's definately important to check these things out. Also, these conditions are almost always present in overweight women and I believe a good exercise routine and healthy diet, as well as weight loss helps to lesson the symptoms. I did go on the pill to help manage the irregular periods, but I couldn't deal with the constant nausea that the pill caused, so I ditched it. So far things have settled and I haven't had too many problems, although I'm now having a second period this month - 3 weeks after the last - so it seems the problem is getting out of control again. Hope this helps and gives you all another avenue to look down as far as solutions go.
