Hi, guys. My friend went to ophthalmologist’s office and he was discovered blepharospasm. I must admit that I haven’t heard about this disease before, so I would like to know if this is a rare disease or not. What do you know about this? I would appreciate if anyone could tell me this.

Hi, there. It is progressive, bilateral dysfunction of the nerve that controls the muscles around the eye. A person has occasional and unwilling blinking on one or both eyes. The exact cause is unknown. It usually appears with people in their 50’s and 60’s. Women are more affected than men. It is not so rare disease. Unfortunately, I don’t know the exact figures. Your friend can ask this his ophthalmologist. Bye!
