Hello, good people. My friend suffers from diabetes mellitus since he was kid. This disease lasts too long. I would like to know whether this disease is a chronic one. Perhaps, this sounds little stupid, but I am not familiar with the nature of this disease. I hope someone will answer. Thanks in advance.

Hello. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease indeed. It is a life lasting one. There is no cure for it. It can only be controlled with medications or insulin. The basic problem in diabetes is that insulin cannot make glucose to enter and be utilized in cells. And glucose is very important energy source for each cell. In a way, you can say that cells are hungry. Your friend cannot eat everything what you can. Ask him something about the disease and try to be supportive. Bye!
