The past few years have been painful. In July of 2007 I had an accident with a motorcycle (my daughter's little 70 dirt bike), when I landed on my head and right shoulder. I wasn't wearing a helmet and did go to the hospital that day. The hospital did x-rays and scans, and stitched up my head then sent me on my way. A year goes by with minimal pain and discomfort in my neck, back, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, and feet. The first signs of severe pain where located in my shoulders, neck and upper back (between my shoulder blades). I went to see a doctor in the fall of 2008. First complaining about my right shoulder. During my next visit (2 weeks later) the doctor seen how I was hunched over while walking and barely moving my head. He asked me what was going on and I told him about the pains in several areas. That day they took x-rays of my neck (while laying on my right side and with my chin to my chest) and said everything looked good. So they sent me to a nerve specialist. The nerve specialist freaked me out by saying I had a muscular disorder, and then corrected himself when he noticed the leads were backwards. After that visit I was diagnosed with neuropathy. My doctors had me try many different things to relieve the pain such as; anti inflammatory medication (1st year and 3rd year), amitriptyline (4 years), narcotics (2 years), anti-depressants (3 years), cortisone shot twice, therapy (4 years off and on), chiropractors (neck & back off and on for 2 years) and many other things. This went on until April of this year (2012). In April I tried using the Kinect (XBOX 360) to play a game of golf, that was a bad idea. Severe pain in my neck and right shoulder stayed with me ever since. I went to my doctor and asked for help. This doctor was new to the clinic I had been attending for the past 4 years. She had x-rays and an MRI of my neck done. The results were a herniated disk ( C5 ) that had moved my spinal cord and was encroaching my nerves. She said I do not need surgery in her opinion, but she was sending my entire file to a neurologist, since the nerves and spinal cord are not her specialty. I am currently waiting to hear from the neurologist ( which by the way is different doctor than before). All I can say is that the past 4 years my pain level hung out around a level 5. Level 4 days were great days and the levels have gone up near a 10. Since April my pain level has been a 7 & 8 (average days are 7.5). Pain medication just clouds my mind and doesn't touch the pain. This royally sucks. I have kept working ever since my accident. The only days I have missed have been weekends and Doctor appointment days.
