Hello, my father is 65 years old and he had problems with blood vessels in the brain (because of the existing arteriosclerosis). And now, doctor concluded that he has multi – infarct dementia and I would like to know if multi – infarct dementia is vascular dementia? Can you give me an answer? I just want to know what is going on with my father.

Yes, those two are actually one same thing. Mechanism of the multi infarct dementia is based on arteriosclerotic changes in the brain, and that lead to ischemic vascular dementia. Therefore when we talk about multi infarct dementia, we might be talking about vascular dementia too. They are very much related.
