Hi! I need some explanation. Recently my grandfather started to behave very odd and my mother was sure that he had Alzheimer's disease. But when my grandfather went to see a doctor, she told him that it’s frontotemporal dementia. Now I’m wondering why is frontotemporal dementia often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's?

Hi! I know something about elderly dementia. I read a lot about this disease. All types of dementia have similar symptoms as Alzheimer's disease. It’s nothing strange to misdiagnose them. But, of course, there are many differences. Patients suffering with frontotemporal dementia will not experience episodes involving true lack of memory as patients with Alzheimer's.
