is taking hydrocodone while being five months pregnant dange

i think it depends on the state you live in wether you are drug tested or not. This is my third pregnancy and i have not been drug tested, and neither of the two ive had were drug tested. Im dealing with the same problems that the rest of the women are talking about. Im not sure if anyone even still checks up on this post but i do have to agree that it was kinda rude to tell the women that her baby would be taken away. she obviously had a Rx, as she said, If the baby shows signs of sickness at birth then im sure they drug test for sure, but like i said i think it depends on the state you live in. and to the woman who orignally posted this question. I dont know how long its been sine you asked this but if you are still needing help go to a pain mangement Dr and get on a suboxen treatment.

YES THEY DO DRUG TEST!!! IT's called the AMBER law in some states! They do this because of mothers that are highly addicted to narcotics! My doctor told me about a case of his and they almost took the baby away! You do not know what you are talking about!

hi i just wanted to say if you are on medicaide they dont drug test you,but when you the baby is born they do a drug test on baby,i have 2 and 1 on the way thats the only reason i know so there is really no need for all the rudeness:)

You are exactly right. This person is posting stuff just to be an as*h*ole, they will not drug test you unless they have reason.

I would like to comment on the post that says the mother & the baby gets drug tested after delivery. That is the most obsurd thing I have ever heard. I have 2 kids & they didn't do a drug test on either of them. My first child was born on a military post even & the army loves to drug test people & I still didn't get drug tested, nor did my baby. Maybe the reason why you got drug tested was because social services was already looking into your mothering techniques & decided it was best for you & your child to get checked out. The only reason anyone would get drug tested after a delivery is because of past investigations with social services or police. So you either have some run-ins with the police & you're on probation for drug use or the social services is investigating you. In your case it sounds like you do need investigations if you're in enough denial to think they do it to everyone that's had a baby. SCARY!

I live in florida and we do not get drug tested (we do have to pee in a cup at every doctor appointment but it is not for drug testing it is for testing your sugar levels and makeing sure you dont have an infection, in florida it is actually il legal to drg test you or the baby with out consent or knowledge.), and the only time the baby dose get drug tested is if he or she is showing signs of withdrawing (such as sneezing more then 3 times in a row) and after they drug test the baby, they take that baby and monitor him or her and ween them off the medications but Social services dose not get involved unless there are reason to beilieve the mother is un fit. I think its different in every state, but I have heard that withdrawing off the medicine can be worse then taking the medicine.

I am also from Florida & we do have to pre every visit but they also do test ur urine for drugs!!! I know cuz I just stopped smoking & I failed that test!!! I wasn't aware they tested me for drugs either....but its their policy that 2 failed drug test & they release u as a patient!!!! I think from reading everyone comments, it all depends on the clinic u go to as well as ur previous history with drugs!!!!

Ok with the whole drug testing thing.... A LOT of women get pain meds while in labor. So if they drug test you and/or baby thats whats going to come up.

Yes they do test every mother so not sure where you've gotten your information ... it is routine to test urine and in some cases blood, core blood or merrconium.

i dont know where ur from but here in texas IT IS BY LAW that they HAVE to drug test you and the baby now

To all the lady's, everyone gets drug tested you just don't know it......fact.

I don't understand why it matters if she's going to get drug tested or not. She has a script from her doctor so i don't understand why anyone even brought that up. 

I have to give a urine sample at every doctor appointment and they DON'T tell you what it is for, you just assume it's for infection ect. but in fine print on the bottom of this piece of paper i received in a stack of papers read... you may be drug tested.  But it doesn't say how. So every urine sample you give, they do drug test it. 

They do test in most states automatically they just don't tell unless you fail but witha script they don't do anything about it I've worked at hospitals here in Alabama for years

I live in Kentucky and I have been prescribed hydrocodone 550 mg for kidney stones since I was about 24 weeks pregnant and I am now 38 weeks. My OB is the one who prescribed me the painkillers and she said that they will drug test the baby through his feces and if there is any hydrocodone in his system at all they will put him in NICU to monitor him for withdrawal symptoms. We told  me that if I stopped taking the painkillers at least a week, two to be sure before the baby was born that this could be avoided but because I only take my pills in halves and usually never more than one complete pill a day that I may not even have to do it at all. I hope this is helpful I know how hard it is to function pregnant and when you add outside ailments it can be impossible and my OB told me that me being hurled over in pain could be worse for the baby than the small amount I was taking just dont overdue it I take enough to take the edge off so I can get up and function I am still in pain but I can be a mother to my other child too.
