I've had a fissure on and off for years, but the last go around was terrible, and accompanied by a sore throat.
Awkward as it is to talk about, I recently was diagnosed with an STD (chlamydia) on both anal and throat swabs, which I likely had for many months without knowing. In addition to a mild, recurrent sore throat, it was also responsible for rectal inflammation. The inflammation led to a fissure. The corticosteroid treatment for the fissure didn't work (and possibly made the STD worse). The fissure itself created more inflammation, making the whole situation worse.
A single dose treatment cleared the STD and the sore throat went away. With the root cause taken care of, the fissure was finally able to heal over a few weeks time.
