Itchy ear and sore throat on left side won't go away.

For several weeks I have had an itchy left ear and a sore throat only on the same side (left). Antibiotics are making no difference. My Allergies have never created symptoms like this. I have a cracked molar on that side and am taking antibiotics before a root canal and crown, but it doesn't seem to have any affect on my itchy ear, or sore throat. I have never smoked. I am a 73 year old lady. Does anyone have any ideas what the Dr. should look for? Tests?
