Hi, folks. My boyfriend has been hospitalized. He is diagnosed with kawasaki disease. I found somewhere that it was more characteristic for kids, but my boyfriend is 25 years old. I would like to know what this is all about and if someone could tell me more. I would really appreciate it.

You are right. Kawasaki disease affects mostly children, but does not mean that it cannot affect adults as well. It has several features. The most important is acute vasculitis. There are also mucous inflammation, rash, cervical adenopathy, swelling of feet and hands and desquamation of fingertips. Treatment is very complex. It requires intravenous gamma globulins. Sometimes surgical methods are also used. You should really talk to the specialist. I hope everything will be all right with your boyfriend.
