I had the same problem that everybody on here has, big, long labia hanging out at least an inch, ive been with the partner for over 8 years and he liked it the way it was and didnt want me to do it, but i was doing it for me and he stood by me 100% came to my apointments etc. I had it done with the nhs, so it was free. i first built up the courage and went to my gp and just said it causes me discomfort and i just wasnt happy wiyth the way i looked etc he then reffered me to a gyno, who i seen about 4 weeks later. She took 1 look and agreed with me that they were big and said i could have it done they even offered me a cancelation a wk and half later but i just wasnt ready and took the next apointment which was march this year. When i had my op i went undr general and i think the best way to describe the pain when you wake up i like the stinging burning pain you get when you are pushing a baby head out, but they gave me morphine and it soon calmed down. Im now on day 4. The first 2 days where fine a bit stingy but nothing bad, but day 3 and 4 have been horrible cant walk properly its stinging and burning like mad. It doesnt look to great at the moment because it swelled and lumpy but it already looks better than it did. I dont have anything dangling whooo. I only told my mum, partner and sisters that i was having the operation, i told friends and people at work that i was having a syst removed from that area and because of where it was i needed to go under general anerstetic which would explain why i was in pain down there. The only thing i wasnt happy about was they didnt give me any aftercare advise at all and i havent even been told i have to go back for a post op appointment!! I am now hoping the pain will soon get easier... but overall at the moment im glad ive had it done and got rid of the long wrinkly elephant ears!! hope i helped someone.

I have had large labia since I can remember and i have always been conscious of it. Now 21, and i have just had the surgery on the NHS on Friday. So it is now Day 3 and I am having greater pinching pains but this is the first pain i have really had. It does look pretty awful down there, mine is lumpy and is white in areas as well as blue from bruising. I am hoping that over the next few days it will start to settle down but if it doesnt I will go back to the GP as it does make me worry.
I cant really sit down properly so my recovery involves me being slouched on the sofa, trying to study but other than that everything is ok.
Despite the swelling it already feels fantastic without the enlarged labia and i cannot wait for it to be fully healed!
For anyone that does want this surgery, make sure you do your research and try getting it via the NHS... if you truly need it you will get it.
Good luck!!

HI can you please tell me that if I want labiaplasty done, how I can get it done in a nhs hospital rather than a private clinic.
My one side of my labia is larger than my left , I woudnt say its hude and I dont have any problems with it its just the way it looks I hate it.
But I wasnt able to find a clinic which I can really trust. I know that I cant get it done on the NHS but I want to get it done privatley in a NHS hospital. Could you help what I should do who I should ring up and talk to??

I, like you, have noticed the vast amount of negative posts regarding bad results from the NHS and am now considering going for a private surgeon who knows what they are doing. After all, appearance does matter!
So, I was wondering if you could tell me which surgeon you went through with (if they can be recommended) and how pleased you were with your results. Would be very grateful for any feedback as I would like to pick the best possible surgeon! Preferably with laser surgery.
Many thanks x

Hi,
I'm 22 years old and i made the decision to have this operation just under a year ago.
The first step i made was to visit my GP (September 2011) where she agreed to refer me to a specialist through the NHS. My GP was very understanding and helpful. She explained that the operation is no longer undertaken by a Gynecologist but a plastic surgeon. My GP explained not for me to get my hopes up as the NHS are not too keen on paying out on plastic surgery, but nether less I came away hoping for the best.
I had a 3month wait (Dec 2011) until I received a letter from the hospital agreeing to an appointment with a plastic surgeon, where I would get examined to see if I was excepted for the operation. My appointment was for January 2012.
My surgeon was very understanding and caring and listened to why my large labia’s where having such an effect on my life. I was very nervous before the appointment so I made a list of questions to ask her so I wouldn’t forget anything while I was there.
There and then she agreed to undertake the operation, I was so pleased as I had read many reviews of people getting turned away.
I received a letter a couple of weeks later (February 2012) stating that I had been excepted, I was over the moon!!!
I had my date of my pre-op and my operation , June 27th, I was so pleased that I actually had a date.
I attended my pre-op where a nurse explained the procedure in detail and answered any final questions that I had.
A day before my operation I had a phone call stating that my operation had been cancelled due to my surgeon having to operate on an emergency cancer patient, I was very disappointed but I understood that there was some out there with a great need than mine.
I received a letter couple of days later with a new date, July 27th. I only had to wait 1 month so I was very pleased with that.
I had the operation 3days ago and I must say I’m very happy that I made the decision.
I’m in no pain what so ever, I’m having little niggles and scratching feeling now and again but that is it. I’ve been taking Ibuprofen for the swelling and Cocordimol for the pain (only when I need it). I’ve been advised not to put ice on my labia’s, although I have noticed a lot of people are doing this. I’m able to sit up fine, im walking with my legs slightly open as I don’t want to squash anything but in general im fine very upbeat.
I’m passing urine fine, I was very worried about this as many people stated that they had a burning sensation the first time, but luckily for me I’ve been fine.
Although I am swollen, no denying that , my right labia seems to be more so. Its not looking at all attractive at the moment but that is expected as its only been 3 days. I’ve been given dressings that I must wear at all times and cream to put on the stitching. I’m aloud a shower tonight and a bath in 7 days time, as the warm water may start dissolving the stitches before it’s started to heal fully.
But all in all I am extremely happy with the results so far, I have a follow up appointment in 8days with my surgeon to get examined.
Its only been 10 months since I visited my GP and I’m so pleased that I pushed myself to take the first step. Please do not be put off by the horror stories on here, very one recovers differently from operations so please so not be put off.
Hope this help anyone out there thinking about undertaking the operation J feel free to ask any questions…

My name is Christine Clark and I am a reporter for Fanshawe College's 106.9 FM. I am working on a documentary about Vaginal Restoration and its benefits that many may not know.
Most of the time as soon as someone thinks of a knife down there they get a bit worrisome. Myself included until I did some further research.
I know many listeners would benefit hearing from someone who has had the surgery and how it helped them. Our audience is primarily women in their early to late twenties who may be struggling with this.
Please contact me if you would like to speak on this topic. If you are not located in London a phone interview can be arranged.
Thank you for your help,
Christine Clark

I have just a few tips for the ladies planning one: swelling is your biggest enemy, so do all you can to head it off. This means, get home, get into bed, prop your hips up on a pillow to promote drainage of fluids from your perineal area back up to your heart, make a small, crotch-size ice pack by putting a few ice cubes into a zip lock baggie, then place that zip lock baggie into another ( no leaking!) and pop the whole thing into a sock (never put ice directly onto your skin!). Begin taking the prescribed anti-inflammatories right away, and make sure you set your phone timer to take them on time. It is especially important to stay ahead of the pain, so that you can heal.
