I am now 53 years old and have wanted something done about my unsightly large inner labia for as long as I can remember. I was married at 18 years old and remained married for 25 years. However, I could not bear my husband to look at my ugly labia and this caused serious sexual problems for us resulting in him having an affair and me being left alone. I now feel ready to find a new partner but I still have the old problem of the large labia so last week I finally plucked up the courage to visit my GP. I explained to her the difficulties during sex, the fact that if my partner is rather well endowed, sometimes my labia are pulled inside me and this is very painful and uncomfortable. I feel that if I don't have something done about this now then my life might as well be over because I cannot get past the psychological effects of having a man see my unsightly large labia when I would rather he could look at a nice, neat little vulva just like so many other women have.
I didn't think my GP would be very sympathetic but she has referred me to a gynaecologist and I have an appointment next month. It can't come quickly enough for me. I have to have this done and I am determined to have it done. If the NHS won't fund it then I will have to go into debt and pay for it myself. This is a new beginning for me and I'm not going to let this opportunity pass to put something right that has damaged and depleted my self confidence for more than 40 decades.
I will keep you informed as to how the consultation goes and, hopefully, when I get a date for the surgery.
