Youre welcome. I feel very sorry for the ladies that have had a bad experience and realise the importance of this very delicate surgery being a success. After all, if it isnt, then it affects everything doesnt it. I researched this for a long long time before making the decision and I made sure that I went to a personally recommended surgeon that had carried out many of these operations. I am not saying that the ladies that didnt have good experiences, didnt do that, but I cannot stress enough how very important it is that you do your homework beforehand. This isnt a surgery to be taken lightly, and if it had just been for cosmetic reasons, I doubt very very much if I would have even considered it.
I had my first post op appointment today - everything is healing okay - still quite tender in certain places but there is no infection present and my surgeon said to give it time (its only been 7 days after all !) she has told me to stop using the HiBi wash now, and to just use babysoap and leave it open to the air as much as possible (hmmmm not sure how that is going to happen - I will be scaring the neighbours away!!) o.O
One thing she did tell me though right from after surgery was NOT to take baths but to shower only. I know some of the ladies on here have said that they were bathing in salt baths, but she told me until the stitches have dissolved and all of the little holes have healed, it is important not to be sitting in bath water. She also said that it can dissolve your stitches too quickly too.
Anyway, I havent got to go back until February now unless I have any problems so fingers crossed.

Just an update on my two posts above (sorry, Im still registered as a Guest) :? Im now 4 weeks post op having had the surgery on 9th November. I did have a bit of a rough time at 7 days post op when I had a really sore yellowy patch come up on the inside of the labia - it really did hurt, so much so, that I phoned the hospital and they very kindly saw me the same day to check it out. I was worried I had caught an infection but they confirmed it wasnt an infection but put me on antibiotics just in case. When the surgeon examined me she just said it was a raw patch on the inside and that it would settle down. Anyway, after having a few rough days, (where I was walking like a cowboy that had just got off his horse!!! ) it all took a turn for the better and now 4 weeks on, it is looking and feeling wonderful. Im back to my normal day to day activities and doing some gentle exercise back at the gym.
Ive not attempted intercourse yet and am not using tampons but have been advised to wait 6-8 weeks for that anyway. (Think Im going to leave it at least 8 weeks cos that is the bit I am scared of!)
If anybody has any questions, please dont hesitate to ask as I know how much info I needed before I went in for the surgery and its not easy to find "real life" reports online. :(

If the reason you got the surgery is because of a remark some guy made, then that's your mistake. There are people in the world who have actual DISCOMFORT from their labia. As young as i can remember, i've always been very depressed and embarrassed about my labia being so large, even when I was about ten it was big. I'm now seventeen and experiencing extreme discomfort from my underwear rubbing against it, all day it gets sore, I've accidentally cut my labia while shaving down there because it's so big, and even sex is unbearable because my labia block the outside from getting wet so when my boyfriend touches me there to try to get me more aroused, it feels very raw and uncomfortable. Large labia are horrible, physically and emotionally. I'm seeing an GYN in a month, because i'm finally old enough for surgery and this is going to be a lifesaver.
It's really wrong for people to tell you not to get surgery when you have suffered with this for most of your life.
Obviously if you're getting it done for the wrong reasons, you shouldn't have gotten it done at all.
The same goes for people who aren't happy with the size.. If you're getting it done to look like a pornstar for your man, you didn't actually have a problem in the first place..
Some people really need this, it's really difficult to live with the constant discomfort of large labia and if you're unhappy with them being too small, stretch them. -.-

OHi, I've been wanting this op for a long time. The problem has become progressively worse over the years and it was this website which finally gave me the push to visit my gp. It was a 10 min appointment where she examined me and asked me why I thought I needed the surgery. I explain discomfort during exercise, sitting for long periods, pain during sex, personal hygiene etc and she referred me to hospital. I heard from the hospital within 6 weeks and within 3 months I had the surgery. This was on Monday. I've been Reading over these posts recognising all of the symptoms. When I first peeked, just after I woke up from the anesthetic!! There was no swelling, I was Soooo happy!! My bits were perfectly flat, nothing hanging out!! I was taking diclofenac for the pain which really helped, I really prepare myself for the worst pain, but even that wasn't enough!! I've read on here that diclofenac is also an anti inflammatory, so it should reduce the swelling! I'm also taking arnica, which you can buy from boots in tablet form. I must say even though it is very tight down there and very hard to sit and walk I think I'm healig pretty well. I have been wiping after the toilet with cotton wool soaked in water and tea tree oil, plus bathing in tea tree oil and salt bath (very quick baths). I've also been trying to air the wound, although mainly because pants are out of the question right now!! I know you shouldn't look for a few weeks, but anyone who who has been ruled by this problem I'm sure will agree this is impossible!! It may look a bit mangled down there right now, but I'm sure it takes a few weeks for the swelling to go down. I'm going to keep an open mind for another week (I had the op on Monday, it's now Friday). Will keep you updated!!

Hey, it's going ok thanks! I got an infection so had to go back to hospital on day 5 as I was in so much pain and there was a funny smell! It's now been 3 weeks since the op! I'm pleased with the outcome, although I don't think they trimmed much awayband they appear uneven! My main concern was the discomfort I experienced on a daily basis. At the moment I'm still in a bit of discomfort as I'm really sensitive and still a bit sore! I think I still have stitches in too! I'm due for me check up in 3 weeks. I really found that frozen peas really helped the swelling go down! I thought I'd prepared myself for the worse pain ever, but not enough! It was the most painful thing I have ever experienced! I do think it was worth while though and I'm sure once it's totally healed I shall update again!! X

I'm sorry to hear about the infection, and the pain.
I think the healing and pain is really an individual thing and can't be predicted.
A guy I worked with had a vasectomy in the morning and went back to work installing TV antennas in the afternoon. I got one and was in bed for several days with the old frozen peas and out of work for a week. My scrotum swelled up the size of a grapefruit and turned black. Just my opinion, but I think your inner lips are what would have become a scrotum if you had developed as a male. Years later when I had bypass surgery and they sawed me open from the neck to my belly button I healed up in a few weeks with almost no pain.
Do you think the uneven appearance could be because one is still swelled a little more?
Did they discuss with you how much they were going to remove?
I'm sure glad to hear you feel it was worthwhile. It would be terrible to go through all that pain and not be happy with the results. After it's all healed, I hope you feel it's beautiful. :-)

I'm 5 weeks post labiaplasty surgery and after reading some of the quite upsetting posts on people's experiences I wanted to post a postive message.
I had a 100% excision and hoodectomy with Transform. This means that I now have no labia minora (they were too bulky to leave anything behind) and my clitoral hood was 'redesigned' so that it was not just left hanging. The stitches are driving me mad and I still can't wear trousers but the appearance has gone from what looked like roadkill in the first week to a neat pretty vagina that I just can't stop looking at... :-D Although the stitches are dissolvable the nurse will remove any that are left after 6 weeks - I am amazed that some people seem to have their stitches removed after just a week or two.
The key is research and communication. Get different consultations and choose a surgeon who has done many procedures. Spend time with the surgeon (I was with mine for an hour) and make sure they take photos and draw diagrams so you both know what is going to happen. If you feel that some information is missing insist upon getting it, or go to someone else. For me, at all stages, both the hospital and the clinic have been only a phone call away, but the paperwork and aftercare instructions that I received from them have been so good that I've only needed to phone once since my week 1 post op checkup. If you are not completely happy with the people involved and do not have a very good idea of what to expect before during and after the process, do not go ahead with it.
I hope this helps with people's decisions. Yes, it's painful for a while, yes it's uncomfortable for a bit longer, but painkillers and ice (for at least the first week you can never have enough ice) get you through. Roll on jeans and swimming costumes! xx

Hi, thanks for the above post. I dont suppose you (or anyone else who has had the surgery) would be able to give me their email address? I have quite a few questions...!
I'm in two minds about whether to go for it or not - I've been unhappy with mine for as long as I can remember, and for the few years was certain I was going to have surgery. Reading some peoples' experiences has left me a bit unsure though...I guess I didnt quite register how serious it is as an operation, and how it takes to recover.
The thing is, if I do do it I'm probably only going to tell my best friend about it - I know my boyfriend wouldnt want me to, but because I'm so self conscious about it, he doesnt know the full extent of how bad things are, so he wouldnt notice that it's a bit smaller! If i get it trimmed the top part will still poke out but I dont really care - I just want it to not be so extreme. But obviously if I wont be able to have sex for a long long time I'll have to explain why...
I just need to know if it's even possible to go it alone...if I'm going to be in the most agonising pain and unable to move or look after myself it's probably not the best idea.
Also, if anyone has any experience or advice about getting it on the NHS please let me know - I think I may be elligible for that, but dont really know how to go about it...
Thanks :-)

I'm very happy to see your post. I hope a lot of people who are contemplating some type of elective surgery will read it and pay attention to what you said. It surprises me that so many who have this done seem to just go in for a cut of the doctor's choice and then end up unhappy. Don't do it until you are sure of what is going to be done and you feel you are going to be getting what you want :!: :!: :!: Make sure the doctor knows exactly what you want and is capable of doing it.
It's YOUR body folks, don't let the doctor do whatever he/she feels like doing. They probably don't give a sh*t about the results because it isn't theirs. Think about what they do to little male babies with no regard to the pain or the fact they are removing a piece of tissue that provides a lot of sexual pleasure. Even adults that have a circ done often are not apprised of the choices they have that can preserve the sexually sensitive part of the foreskin. The doctor just wants to do a quick chop and stitch. They just don't CARE!
You said you had a 100% hoodectomy with transform.
Can you describe that in more detail?
I understand you removed the lips completely but did you leave your clitoris fully exposed?
What does "transform" mean?
You obviously discussed this in great detail to get exactly what you wanted.
Did the surgeon have recommendations or suggestions for you?
Can you tell us what type of surgeon you went to?
Was it a plastic surgeon, or one who specializes in this type of surgery or what?
May I ask what country you are in?
Again, your advice was so appropriate.
Thank you. :D

I can't help you with the NHS stuff as I'm in the USA but part of your post does concern me.
I'm sure you can "go it alone" but ---- isn't that what boyfriends are for? To be there with/for you.
Why would you even think of doing this without telling your BF? Do you think he will still be your BF if you do it without making him a part of it? Your BF is going to be making love to it, don't you think he deserves to be part of what you are doing? If he showed up tonight and said "I just got circumcised" how would you feel? Would you think he should have at least mentioned it to you before he did it?
"If i get it trimmed the top part will still poke out but I dont really care - I just want it to not be so extreme"
It sounds like you do really care and it IS your body, why not have it done the way YOU want it? It's going to be your PAIN!!!!
I don't know how it works with your system. Maybe you have to consider yourself lucky to be able to get them to do anything for you so having a choice about what they do isn't an option for you. If that's the case, I am truly sorry for you.
Whatever you do, I hope you end up satisfied and your BF is still your BF.

Hi again, thanks for your reply. The main reason I just want to get it trimmed and I dont really care about making sure none of it pokes out is that it seems it would be far less of an ordeal...as in the recovery time (and pain) would be a lot less. That is my main reason for being unsure (apart from all the horror stories of it going wrong, and the pain, of course!). I just dont want to be recovering for months, not being able to work, wear jeans, have sex..etc. Just a trim seems like it would be a lot easier to recover from then anything more extensive. I dont really have any aspirations to have the 'perfect' tiny vagina that babies have - I just dont want it to be so incredibly noticeable.
I understand what you said about telling my BF. The thing is, if I dont tell him I'm having the surgery, I probably wouldnt tell him about it after. Because he's never really properly seen it, I honestly doubt that he would even notice - unless of course it all gets cut off and I have nothing really down there. So it wouldnt be the same as him telling me he's got circumcised without telling me. But I get what you're saying. I've just never really talked about it with him, and I'm sure he'd try and persuade me not to...but I wouldnt be doing it for him, I'd be doing it for me. I just dont want to spend the rest of my life feeling very insecure about it - wondering if anything shows when I'm wearing a bikini, never being able to be totally naked with the lights on (unless my legs are tightly together) infront of my bf...even really stupid things, like if I ever got pregnant, I'd be self-conscious in front of doctors when they do the checks and things. But I'm thinking you're right, and it would make more sense and be much easier if I did tell him.
I really keep changing my mind about whether to do it or not - I definitely think of myself as a feminist, and I'm aware that the idea that women have tiny, hairless vaginas is a myth perpetrated by porn. It's just that mine is VERY differernt - its not like it hangs out a little bit, its a LOT. More than most pics i've seen. And the idea that I will always be incredibly self-conscious because of it is not something that makes me happy. I'm the least prudish person there is, and the fact that I wont let my bf properly see my vagina, and the fact that I havent even talked about it with him, is only a reflection of my unhappiness with it.
Suggestions or advice is very welcome! Thanks a lot xx

Hi
I've been unhappywith the way I look down there too and like many others here I also experiance discomfort on many occasions. I'm always adjusting myself after being seated for more than 10 mins, exercising can cause it to rub and they get in the way during sex. I could go on but I feel that most of this has already been said...
Anyway - what concerns me is how many people are trying to get the op done on the NHS to save them money. This is a BIG decision to make and I for one am happy to save for as long as it takes so that I can see a private surgeon who specialises in this field and who will provide comprehensive care. Laser surgery seems the best option and will set me back £3700 but I want this done right and I only want it done once. If your NHS doctor messes this up there is no going back and from most of the posts reporting unfortunate negative experiences it seems to me that the NHS were involved. Think long and hard about this. I'm 30, have had some boyfriends who LOVE it, others who didn't seem bothered and one ass who said he prefered smaller women. I told him to go and find one and that was that! Lol.
All I'm saying is that if it causes you issues now just stop and think about how much worse things could be if it goes wrong. Don't be blinded by the idea that 'anything' is better. We wouldn't treat another part of our bodies with this sort of disregard. If you are going to permanently change anything about yourself please make sure you do your research and get the best treatment that you can afford. I'm all for doing it but girls, even though they might be big and cause discomfort, we should still love ourselves to get it properly looked into.
If anyone has any reports on things a good few months after the op that would be great.
I had a nose job 8 years ago and was 'devastated' when the bandage came off. I looked like Miss Piggy at first but the docs were right and it did take a good 6 months to settle and I now love my new nose. Surgery is a big thing and is rarely something that you will recover from in a few weeks.
Best of luck everyone! x
