Im 29 and had half my thyroid removed around six years ago. Ive never been given any medication. (Although i have constently been stuggling with my weight and always feel tired) i am now trying to get pregnant and have been for about 8 months with no joy. From reading how the thyroid is important in the stages of pregnancy i am concerned this might have something to do with it, or could cause a problem later on.

I had half of my thyroid removed after my first child was born. I was worried that it would interfere with becoming pregnant a second time (at age 38). I consulted my ob/gyn. She was very helpful and checked my thyroid levels regularly. I was able to get pregnant without any problems and now my son is 1 year old. I did want to write because pregnancy and the post-partum stages can affect your thyroid. I would recommend seeking advice from your ob/gyn if you have not already done so. I am currently experiencing thyroiditis due to the hormonal changes associated with weaning my son. I hope to have everything back to normal soon!

Best wishes!

9 years ago I had half my thyroid removed due to a goiter. My levels have been check every years since and have always been told that my levels are "normal". Last week had blood work done... level is 3.9. My new doctor said that I'm in the normal range; however she'd like to see me closer between 1-2. I've tried to get pregnant for the last 4 years and have never been told that my thyroid might be a problem. I was also just asked by my new doctor to have my gluclose/insulin ratio taken. Level is a 4 and she said that's very low. Seems to me that it's an endochrine issue... thyroid, ect.
Tired of trying to figure it out. I hope my new doctor and unlock the mystery.

Hi, Don't be worried. Although fertility can be a problem, it's best to talk to your GYN. I had a partial thyroidectomy at 29 as well. I would suggest seeing your GYN who can refer you to a fertility specialist. You're young so don't worry so much. In my case, I had multiple fibroids. Work on it now so you don't need to worry later.
