Quick Reply, So happy to see I'm not being a wuss. Had the surgery 4 1/2 days ago and having the same problems you had. The pain is horrific and the pills don't help. Praying that when this is over the hemorrhoid a are gone for good, because they had become horrible painfully as well.

I am glad I found this forum. Thank you everyone for sharing their experiences. My Dr definitely did not provide enough information on what to expect after the surgery. I am on my 2nd day and it has been tortured so far. What really disappoints me is how the Dr describe the procedure as something minor and you will be back on your feet a week or 2 later. From reading the posts here, it gives me a sense of what the average person goes through as oppose to the best case scenario the doctor described. The reason I had the procedure done was because I have internal hemorrhoids and in the past few weeks, after pooping, I was leaking lots of blood. I don't mean just drops. It streams out every time a push during BM. I have had hemorrhoids for over 10+ years now and it has been manageable until recently. I went in for my physical and the results of my blood test alarmed my primary physician. My levels were at half of what a normal person should have. She recommended I do the hemorrhoid surgery right away. As with many people, I just listened to the Dr and didn't do much research heading into the surgery. As I mentioned, as I'm writing this, it's the end of my 2nd day at home. I was discharged 1 hour after the surgery with a list of med: Oxycodone-acetamin, Docusate Sodium, Lidocaine. I received no instructions on when these should be taking (after meals, in-between, empty stomach, etc). They didn't really described what are some of the side affects of these medicines either. Overall, I'm really disappointed with the lack of information provided by the surgeon. Anyway, so after a couple of hours after coming home, I had the urge to poop but I wasn't sure if it was due to the dressage on my anus or a real urge to poop. I removed the dressage and pull the tampon like item out. There was no blood so I was relieved. But I was so constipated, I wasn't able to poop. The nurse told me to drink a lot of water, which I did. That resulted in me having the urge to pee every hour. Initially, I had a hard time pee'ing. I felt like I had no muscle control. Later on, I realized that it was due to the Oxycodone. It makes you numb and you lose muscle control. The next day, I tried to poop a couple of times but nothing was happening. I was afraid to push because I felt like I might rupture something. I waited for the Oxycodone to wear off, after about 5-6 hours and tried pooping again. I drank the milk of every 6 hours or so but it did not seem to have any effect. So far, I was drinking the MOM after meals. I decided drinking the MOM on a mostly empty stomach. That helped and I started getting uncontrollable BM. It was really painful but I was able to have my first poop 1 day after surgery. The 2nd day has been similar to the first day. Still having a hard time pooping. I was able to do a semi poop with a couple of nuggets but felt like I have some unfinished business. Hopefully, tomorrow (3rd day) will be better. Also, since I have been sleeping irregularly because of the need to pee after drinking so much water and the oxycodone putting me to sleep at odd times, I have been feeling a throbbing headache, hopefully that goes away tomorrow. Also, I am very glad my wife has been very supportive. I can not imagine going through the post recovery alone.

So it's been exactly 2 weeks since my Transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization surgery. The first 7 days after the surgery was hell. The constant pressure and pain from the surgery was almost unbearable when you have to pass gas or poop. After the surgery, it's was hard to know if it was just gas or poop. The dr put some numbing cream inside which made it worse cause you couldn't tell what was going on. But fortunately, after the 7th day, there was light at the of the tunnel. The pain subsided tremendously. The numbing cream wore off after about 3 days. I started to have a sense of control over my anal muscles again. After 2 weeks, I'm about 90% recovered. Walking is not a issue. Pooping has become normal...btw, keep taking the stool softeners. It helps a lot. I can resume most activities. Have not done any running or jumping yet. Can still feel a little pressure and pain when I squeeze but but muscles. Hopefully, back to 100% in another week or so. Hope for the best recovery for everyone.

My doctor forgot to write a prescription for pain pills. I asked about it as I was being discharged and when I went to the pharmacist at the clinic for an over the counter prescription, but they said nothing was written. I got a call from a nurse 1-2 days later saying they had forgot and I could pick the prescription up. I refused. Screw em. Just had my first bowel movement. It took several days. Did it squating in the bathtub.

hi there, i underwent a hemorrhoidectomy this past Tuesday 10/11 in US. The surgeon had planned on a thd procedure but when they opened me up, one of the rhoids started gushing. She wound up doing an internal hemorrhoidectomy and she also cut me on the outside as I had multiple external rhoids. I feel this is as close to hell as one can possibly get. Ive been having a real tough go of it. See stars every time i go #2 and after going #2, I feel like my rectum is going into spasms. Hard to describe, but definitely spasms. I also am retaining my urine. Told this is a side effect of this God awful surgery. I have been taking all the meds, Oxycodone, Ibuprofen, Metamucil, stool softener and stool softener with laxative. I've also been doing warm sitz baths, tucks sprays and tucks pads, ice packs tucked back there to try and control the swelling. I've been eating fruits, veggies and plenty of fibrous foods. I have a moderate size rectocele (hernia) back there and I think I feel like it pops out whenever I bear down. The rectocele was NOT fixed at the time of surgery. I may need to go inpatient to be catheterized due to inability to urinate. Would appreciate anyone's comments, advice, feedback, good or bad to help guide me. Thanks in advance.

I'm glad I found this forum. I will be having this surgery on November 1st. Doctor said it will be bad but had no clue about all of this. I will definitely start a high fiber diet next week before surgery. Will update after surgery!

Hi I'm a 60year old male just two days since I had a heammarhoid ectamy staple this is due to the roids painful suffering previous which I was able to find some relieve from numerous salt bathes helping to reduce roids baths where every 3hours my god the sure helped. Well back to after the operation bladder working often will cause concern as vital that you can pass urine should that you can't the pain enslaught starts well don't wait get the nurse to get a catheter into you believe me instant relieve once they take it out you need to get the bladder working at least three times then have a bladder scan they can let you know you should be OK. Be careful as not to trick yourself and drink to much or over do it can be a catch 22 for gage yourself carefully. This is now hoping within the next 2to3days I can have a bowel movement never push or strain makes everything worse quite normal after a operation . the doctors have given flagyl to take for 5 days after the operation 3times a day to stop any infection. Plus once you have a bowel movement have a salt bath to lots of salt and as warm as you can stand will help. I'm waiting as only second day after operation .so patient try not to stress with how you recover that helps. This is my second hemorrhoid operation in three years mine being very internal and very big try being very positive and rid yourself of any negative people or and negativity as stress unlying stress aggravate your recovery or hemorrhoids which ever it may be. Get active walking helps to get you farting riding you of the air build up it does work . correct diet limit to much dairy a little piece of cheese OK high fibre greens soups wholemeal little butter. Olive oil helps natural lube internal thru mouth not rectal all with moderation. Small helpings don't overeat remembering you have to pass a soft sthule as better for the rectum not harsh which can be very irretable. Chicken not fried more your stir steamed style vegetables soft mashed plenty of water as not to dehydrate this will work wonders . during recovery period avoid and grains as they will only irrate the colon and bowel movements as you know often the seeds pass thru without breaking down. Juices are good but correct amount just a small glass is good at your three meals all that can created soft full sthule for a good bowel movement is what we all need for hemmerhoid suffers . well good luck but be positive and avoid any over medication and plenty of rest as this is when body recovers best and get good exercise after small helpings and keep your weight for what is recommended for a person your age and height this will keep the doctor away and the hemorrhoids in check or rid you of them.

Short story. I ended up in emergency surgery 32 days after my hemroidectomy only to get the bleeding to stop. More blood that I ever want to see again in my life. Now recovering after my 4th day and so scared to even poop. That poop 32 days after 1st surgery litterely tore me open. Every single wound. Now I'm so scared and will be for another 32 days at least. I know it will be longer that I'm scared. 32 days post surgery with 2 emergency visits, 3rd was the final draw when I woke up covered in blood. This has been the worst experience of my life and now I'm just so scared.

Had my surgery last Wednesday (seven large external) and it is Monday night. I too read the horror stories and almost backed out, but manned up and went through with it. On a side note, I admit I do love the pre-surgery prep--warm blanket, nurses doting on me, the IV that makes me drowsy then...sleep! Okay, then I wake up in recovery and all is well (demerol coursing through my system). I went home and settled in. My lovely wife had pureed some high fiber soups for me when the time came for me to start eating, but I kept it to water and juices for the first 36 hours. For the first two days the pain was bearable--I didn't want an opioid and my prescription for ketorolac (non-opioid pain med) didn't get filled until Friday, so I got by om 400mg of ibuprofen every four hours, if that gives you any indication of the pain level (I'm still getting by on ibuprofen). I had six BMs in the first two days and it was tolerable, but then on day three the painful, stinging BMs set in. Although still bearable, I did need to put in a rubber mouth guard to keep from chipping my teeth from biting down, which I'm still using. I'm taking 5-6 baths/sitz baths per day, which have become a necessary activity for hygiene and pain relief, as wiping still isn't an option. Physically, I was feeling good enough to take walks and even go shopping, but I think I may have over done it, as a fatigue hit me hard today. I strongly suggest you buy pads for your shorts, which I'm needing to change upto six times per day; I foresee needing them for at least a few weeks. Personally I prefer Kleinart's large underarm sweat pads (ever wonder how execs and speakers rarely have pit stains?). You can go to their website and select away, but get enough for a couple months. Bottom line: although painful, it's not close to the horror stories I read about and would voluntarily do it again, though I hope not to. By the way, even though there's still some swelling, I've got to admit my bum is already looking quite handsome, perhaps even dashing! Don't fear and good luck, all...the end (of your hemorrhoid pain) is nigh!!!
