Don't take it with food. It specifically says to take on an empty stomach in the morning.

I was on 25mg thyroxine but 2 weeks ago went up to 50 mg and for the last week, have been suffering from a very bloated stomach. Bloated to the extent that I look, heavily pregnant and it's actually painful. I stopped taking the drug for 2 days and the bloating went down. I've started taking it again but am feeling really uncomfortable. I going to go back down to 25 mg I think.

I was on levothyroxine for seven years and despite my labs being in the "normal" range felt like my symptoms were only partially improved. It was noted that my T3 was in the low normal range and suggested I was a "poor converter" of the T4 in levothyroxine to the T3 our bodies use.  I had terrible bloat, never could lose the weight despite a strict diet and exercise regimen, and had terrible fatigue. My new doctor offered to switch to prescribed desiccated thyroid hormone last week and already I  feel much better. The fluid retention and constipation has disappeared. Something to consider.

I am fairly new to taking Levothyroxine, I am on a 25mcg (Lowest Dose). Since I have started taking this I have noticed positive outcomes, such as, not feeling tired and having a bit more energy. Though, I have also noticed discomfort and bloating in my stomach. It is so uncomfortable...I am not sure what to do...

I have been the same, I have been on Levothyroxine for 4 months, and my stomach is huge, I used to have a flat stomach before my thyroid gave up, then i piled on weight so quickly before being diagnoised. since then I have lost the weight again but my stomach remains to look pregnant. i dont drink milk, so i don't think this has anything to do with it. i have actually just made an appointment with my doctor after reading that you and others have had the same problem.

I have changed my diet because of bloating from taking levothyroxine 25mgs for just 4 weeks and have steadily gained weight too. I am so uncomfortable after eating a meal, now I only eat small amounts regularly and am often feeling sick from my stomache pushing the food back. I believe this is partly because our bodies have to adjust to new medication and because our bowels work slowly as a result of our thyroid condition. I have requested a natural thyroid armour be prescribed by my doctor but may have to wait for my new blood result s in two weeks. I advise listen to your body its often letting you know somethings not right. I also have episodes of allergic ractions I never suffered before, itching shortness of breathe and tight chest which suggests my body is reject ing the medication levothyroxine.

I too have the bloating problem! Especially after taking Levo. I look pregnant. Next morning I look flat! Same cycle! I have been on this sh*t for 5 years and told dr. He said, oh
It can't be, but look at all of the complaints! And weight gain!!! Horrid!!!

I disagree! I take it with food. If I didn't, my stomach would ulcerate! I have the normal blood levels.

Yes, I do, same dosage. Stopped gluten, dairy with no relief. I really feel its the levothyroxine. It also causes constipation, difficulty in swallowing. Going to stop taking it.

Just came across this thread as was searching for what may be causing my severely bloated stomach and continuous gas. I have always been slim as well as a big eater yet hardly put on weight until I started taking Levothyroxine (under active thyroids) I am on 125...I am bigger than I have ever been.
Although i have a very complex medical history so meant to be taking lots of meds (which i dont agree with) I have a feeling its either the Levo (and Omeprazole) combined or the Levo.
I have started drinking lots more water as well as Herbal Teas. No more milk. One scientist (of which the name escapes me) said Milk can cause severe bloating as, in his opinion, (and he has dome much research into this feels milk is fine for cows but not for humans. Needless to say i no longer drink milk.
