I am so glad to find I'm not a whiner or baby after my cataract surgery and light sensitivity ! My computer screen even causes problems. I had to have the cataracts done because I needed eye surgery and the retina surgeon said he had to have the cataracts out for the surgery.
Do those tinted regular glasses help? the kind that change with the light? I have to wear super dark sunglasses outside even on a partly cloudy day.

Opthalmologist have convinced people over the age of 65 that cataract surgery is the way to go. Nothing could be further from the truth. They have all just turned their practice into mills for the elderly. My left eye has never been the same... NEVER. the lids drops. For weeks I could not see out of that eye. It has been 3 years and I can see in stores with Ray Ban's and not for long. I would like to string that doctor up by his gonads

I also have blue eyes and fair skin and my eyes have never felt completely better after over 2 yrs. since surgery. I kept mentioning it to Dr. at regular appointments and he just said to use more drops! I may go to a different Dr. and might try the contacts, although I have never worn them and at my age think it might cause even more irritation!

I had this procedure done in December of 2012 and have the same complaints. I think the extreme photosensitivity causes me to have headaches as well, never had them before this operation. Artificial tears don't help either in my case. Being in a room with closed shutters nowadays is the only way to get relief however, my vision is excellent, do not need glasses to read. When I get up in the morning I need to wear sun glasses so my eyes get used to the light slowly, take them off after about one hour. I do not blame my ophthalmologist for this, he is excellent, maybe it is the special IO Restore Lens for which I paid 2,695 per eye. Would be interesting to hear if you had the same lens implant.

thanks for that,I'll try keeping my sunglasses on for an hour in the morning. regarding cost, I live in the U.K. and didn't have to pay for my two cataract operations, and have no idea of the type of lens implant, all I know is that I can see driving my car without glasses now, but still need them for reading and other close work. Am due to have laser treatment in two weeks on one eye, but don't think this will help the glare. Also still have glare whilst driving at night. So far don't think I'm at all better off.

It depends a lot on how much the cataracts affect your vision. Before I had surgery I would hear people say that you had to wait until the cataracts 'ripened' before having them removed. My eye doctor said this was a myth! It's better to get good information from those who know. He told me that having cataract surgery was up to the patient, when they get to be bothersome or greatly affect your vision, then make a decision as to when you want it done.
I'm an artist and it was affecting my ability to see true colors and I just plain got tired of the blurriness. I have to say that I wish I had done it sooner. I was amazed at how easy and totally pain free it was. You are given a slight sedative, and are completely relaxed. You don't see a thing, feel no pressure or pain and the actual surgery is over in fifteen minutes.
Check with your health insurance to see what is covered and how much it will cost you. The eye drops required before and after the surgery are costly and you will have to make a chart to track them, because you start a few days before the surgery and continue with them for almost a month after. I had both eyes done this January (2013), two weeks apart, it was painless, relaxing and sooooo easy. I was diagnosed with cataracts twelve years ago and just had the surgery.

I just had catarac surgery two weeks ago and experiencing the same problem. The doctor gave me a sample of 'Muro' drops. The sample was too small and used for the first few days. it didn't seem to help. I got a fresh batch from the pharmacy today. It is working. I'm outside now without squinting. Give it a try. No prescription needed.

Perhaps those of us who suffer from the same complaints should ask the doctor next time about cornea edema (swelling). Dr. Michael Wu (google search: cornea edema) appears to provide the appropriate answer for the complaints that we all have.

I have the same problem, its not dry eye. I tired and my surgeon, tired everything, cauterized my tear duct and drops to decrease my pupil, I still cannot open both eyes outside. I drive with two pairs of sunglasses and wear sunglasses in the house. The only relief I have is when it is dark.
