What's life expectancy for MCTD patients?

Loading...

Hello,

people diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disease alone generally doesn't affect years person has to live after the diagnosis too harshly. The main problem usually is the diseases like rheumatoid arthritis that develop alongside MCTD. Also, some people might have only mild symptoms of the condition throughout their whole life, while others do develop more serious form with flare-ups which might be both life-threatening and require hospitalization. Obviously, people with more serious form of mixed connective tissue disease have shorter life expectancy. The disease itself doesn't have a cure and practically, all that can be done is mainly managing the symptoms with steroid medication to fight the inflammation, or imuno supressants - to try minimize the number of flareups MCTD patient suffers.
