Your story caught my attention, I feel like my situation is similar to yours. I'm 58 and had my left lung removed December 4th 2017 today is February 19 2018. I was in commercial construction for over 30 years, some of it in older buildings around asbestos and I smoked for 40 years. My oncologist says it was the ciggarettes that got me in the end. I live in Chicago and walking outside wasn't an option due to the weather. Anyhow it's been over 2 months now and my breathing hasn't improved a bit, I'm in chemo and maybe that's part of the problem but I was wondering how long it was before you could breath somewhat normally. I to quit 9 months before the diagnosis. I just ordered a treadmill as I'm nervous about walking outside, I get winded very easily and don't want to be caught with nowhere to sit down. Just wondering if things will get any better any time soon. I'd appreciate any advice, thanks

I have a boyfriend who's in the hospital for a moped accident over a week ago.He drove his moped in bad weather when he ran his moped into a piled of snow broken 3 ribs and a puncture to his lungs . Few days go by they attached him to a heart monitor and everything else next day I text him to see if he's okay and how he's feeling he was talking funny next two days ago he want to get released cause he was feeling better but although his right lung didn't filled up they gave him x-rays and attached a suction to his lower left armpit to get the right lung filled.

I too have only one functional lung. I have completed several marathons, and many half marathons. I have recently ventured into triathlons and have completed sprint, and Olympic distance events... I am now training for a half iron man within the next few months, then next will attempt a full iron man if all goes well. I too am slow but I have yet to finish last. Just finishing is always my goal. I would love to connect to trade training tips and experiences!!! Thanks. Greg Gerardy

My mum is 84 in a few weeks and had a lung removed aged 15. ShE went on to marry and have 3 children (would have been 4 but lost one in an accident). My father takes great care of my mother which I feel is testament to her longevity. She is a non smoker and never smoked. She has 3 great grandchildren and 5 grandchildren so has given the world 11 offspring down the line. She is now quite frail but still mobile and active. She us wonderful. A long happy life is possible with care. Good luck.

I am a 46 yr old male. One functional lung (left side). I have completed many FULL marathons with just one lung. I regularly run half marathons as part of my training regiment. In addition, I have recently tackled triathlons having now completed both Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons and working toward a Full Iron Man Triathlon with just one lung. ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting of private information such as name, phone number or email address is not allowed in order to protect your privacy*** Please read our Terms of Use

I had my right lung removed in 2009. I just turned 67. After surgery I had unrelated complications but once I was able to build up strength & stamina I did fine. Please be aware that it takes time and patience though. At first I was not able to climb a couple of steps without feeling breathless...I have a new normal now...meaning I don’t run nearly at all and I have to be careful in weather extremes of hot/cold...but all-in-all, I am more active than some people 20 years my junior.
Your Dad can do fine!!!

Hi,
Thank you for writing a bit from your story...I'm 30, and 2 weeks ago, my left lung collapsed 2nd time in 7 months. Cause?! Mechanical. Drs told me because my bronchis weakened, they cannot really put a steint and recommend surgical removal, in order to have a normal life.
Any word...advice about after surgery?
What kind of sport/training you made first?
What about pregnancy? How long after the surgery?

Thank you and I really appreciate your time and your answer,
Ana
