I search for an answer to my question. How bad low HDL could be? I am 54 years old and still in good shape. I run once a week and practice light workout two times a week, long walks included. Even though I try to keep my weigh in normal proportion, last blood test showed low HDL levels. LDL level was within allowed limits. Should I be concerned?

Well, the best thing now would be to do some calculations. I am talking about dividing total cholesterol level (number you get by adding all cholesterol levels, including both HDL and LDL), with HDL level. That is how you will get your HDL ratio. If that number is smaller then 3.5, then you have nothing to worry about. If not, consult your doctor on ways to improve this ratio.
